Foundry and Tooling Engineer Biscoe, NC Summary: Our client is a tier 1 supplier who is looking to add a Foundry and Tooling Engineer to their team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the development of tooling from initial order through to final delivery, ensuring the successful production of high quality tooling that achieves a high first-pass yield. Additionally, you will play a critical role in optimizing tooling design and configuration to efficiently and profitably produce castings that meet customer specifications. The Foundry and Tooling Engineer will ideally have 5 years of experience in a foundry or similar heavy industrial environment. Foundry and Tooling Engineer Job Requirements: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Solidworks experience required Magma or other foundry solidification software experience required Must be able to lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs. Able to work flexible hours as needed Ability to work in extreme heat Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work under pressure and make deadlines; Professional etiquette Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field Minimum 5 years foundry experience or similar heavy industrial environment Supervisory experience preferred Lean manufacturing or 6 Sigma experience preferred Programming CNC machines a plus Working knowledge of APQP and PPAP for automotive desired Proficiency in designing molding patterns including gatingrisering Experience designing core boxes (shell and cold box) Experience with any solidification modeling software; MAGMA experience a plus Foundry and Tooling Engineer Day to Day Responsibilities: Design, simulate, sample and maintain foundry tooling (patterns, core boxes and fixturesgages) to meet all customer requirements utilizing customer supplied part geometry and specifications Thorough understanding of foundry processes including green sand molding and a basic understanding of ductile iron metallurgy Advanced knowledge of GD&T Ability to manage a small team of hourly and salary employees in the technical field Train and mentor engineers and technicians Ability to network with customers on new design of parts to meet foundry and customer needs (design for manufacturability) Develop detailed CAD layouts of new patterns and core boxes Maintain and update customer-based web-portals to allow smooth data transition Manage outside tooling vendors including quoting, project management and inspection of received tooling Detailed knowledge of quoting castings Assist with the layoutmeasurement of tooling and parts using CMM and 3D scanner Perform internal audits for IATF 16949:2016 Willing to work "hands-on" when needed to assist foundry sampling programs; Other duties as assigned Determine the most efficient tooling design and configuration to profitably produce castings within customer specifications Work with production control and other departments to ensure trouble-free and timely start-up of new jobs and engineering changes; Track, record and report progress Prepare documentation of new work and set dates for completion of tooling, sampling, pilot runs, layouts, etc. Initiate communication with customers and tooling vendors on status and act as liaison on new job start-up, casting design and cost-reduction proposals; Suggest design changes to enhance value on existing and new designs Communicate with Sales Department on product development, tooling designs and new job status Communicate required changes to appropriate plant personnel Participate in the Cost Estimate Requisitions (CER's) process by developing estimates of tooling design, yield, and cost WHO WE ARE?
