JOB TITLE: Driver TrainerLOCATION: Jersey City, NJDEPARTMENT: OperationREPORTS TO: SVC ManagerESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To plan, organize and direct a wide range of training activities for a wide range of employees in Transportation. Conduct and supervise training and develop programs for employees to improve & maintain safety standards, improve employee's skills, and build morale. This is highly responsible position performing a wide variety of functions for Avesta Drivers.RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for assisting drivers with on road behavior and expectations.Assists in planning and scheduling entry level and the annual in-service training programs for authorized Avesta P&D drivers.Partner with HR to conduct interviews for new drivers and review endorsements needed prior to onboarding training.Implements, conducts andor oversees elements of authorized driver training program.Assesses driver trainees' abilities to meet acceptable standards per both DOT & FMCSA by making recommendations for further training or discontinuing training.Performs probationary observations of drivers, including observation reports.Keeps informed of current issues regarding transportation operations and federalstate DOT regulations.Performs observations, "ride along" and assists drivers with concerns and makes suggestions for improvement through coaching.Assists in implementing refresh retraining for drivers.Be willing to substitute drive as needed.May attend training sessions, meetings, and workshops as required for the betterment and development of Avesta.Partner with Safety in conducting both preventable and near miss investigations.Assist in yearly on-the-roadbehind the wheel training of municate necessary information regularly to students and colleagues regarding student progress and student needs.Manage student driver behavior in the classroom and while on the road by enforcing rules and procedures specific to Avesta Management and DOT.Performs other duties as assigned.EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or GED required. CDL and five years' experience driving tractor trailer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above preferred.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Bilingual in Spanish a plus. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest rates, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and statistics. This includes a basic understanding of regression, forecasting, and general statistics. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
