One of CEI's largest Energy & Electric Utility clients is seeking a Fiber Networks Specialist (Levels I-III) to join their growing organization!ClientIndustry: Energy & Electric UtilityJob Title: Fiber Networks Specialist (Levels I-III)Location: Remote within Service Area with Occasional Travel | Akron, OH 44320Work ScheduleShift: Mon-Fri | Minimum 40 work hours per week.DurationLength of Assignment: 2 Year Contract to Hire *Must be able to convert to a full-time employee without sponsorship, restrictions, or an additional employer* W2 Employment Only - No Corp to Corp C2C arrangements.Expected potential for contract extension(s) andor conversion to Full-TimePermanent Employment.Optional benefits available during contract (Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401k)Position Overview:The Fiber Networks Specialist will play a key role in supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of a mission-critical fiber network that enables secure and reliable transmission and distribution operations. This position is part of a dedicated Fiber Networks team responsible for ensuring seamless integration and performance of fiber optic infrastructure, working in collaboration with multiple internal teams and external contractors. The team operates within a structured yet dynamic environment where safety, documentation, and efficiency are prioritized. The specialist will work closely with engineering, IT operations, and project management groups to drive fiber-related initiatives and support ongoing network enhancements. This role involves direct engagement in fiber network planning and execution, ensuring the installation, maintenance, and documentation of fiber optic systems align with operational requirements. The candidate will contribute to network scalability by designing reliable and cost-effective fiber solutions, maintaining accurate records of network assets, and coordinating with various stakeholders to manage schedules, budgets, and project scopes. The specialist will also oversee fiber optic activities in alignment with organizational change management processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.Required SkillsExperienceQualifications: Minimum of two (2) years of direct outside fiber experience, with increasing responsibility based on level (up to seven years for Level III).Experience in at least one of the following: electric distribution or transmission industry, fiber engineering or design, fiber installation or maintenance, cable service provider operations, or general fiber network management.Understanding of fiber installation methods in underground, distribution power space, and transmission line environments.Knowledge of ADSS (All-Dielectric Self-Supporting) and OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) fiber cables.Familiarity with optical network transport technologies and fiber network operations.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with AutoCAD, Visio, FileNet, or other drawingdocument management tools.Experience with mapping software for fiber route documentation.Ability to interpret construction drawings and documents for fiber installation projects.Experience with project management or project coordination, including budgeting, scheduling, and vendor management.Knowledge of right-of-way and permit management.Understanding of OSHA, NESC (National Electrical Safety Code), and other fiber installation standards.Awareness of underground utility locating requirements and services.Preferred Skills (Not Required): Previous experience working with utility companies or power transmission networks.Exposure to fiber splicing and testing techniques.Knowledge of network monitoring and diagnostic tools for fiber infrastructure.Certifications in fiber network operations or optical transport technologies.Day to DayResponsibilities:Support and manage fiber optic network operations by collaborating with engineering, IT, and field teams to ensure smooth functionality and integration of fiber infrastructure.Follow IT Operations and network protocols, ensuring that fiber networks align with corporate security and compliance standards.Promote safe work practices, adhering to industry and corporate safety regulations.Work with internal and external stakeholders to define project requirements, budgets, and timelines for fiber network installations and upgrades.Develop business cases for new fiber projects, evaluating costs, feasibility, and return on investment.Conduct field site visits to assess installation conditions, ensure compliance with specifications, and troubleshoot fiber connectivity issues.Design scalable, reliable, and cost-effective fiber solutions, ensuring future growth and operational efficiency.Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of fiber installations, modifications, and network events.Oversee fiber optic activities within the organizational Change Management process, ensuring seamless coordination between IT and field teams.Use AutoCAD, Visio, and FileNet for documenting fiber routes, network diagrams, and design specifications.Monitor fiber network performance, identifying and resolving potential issues to maintain operational efficiency.Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and subcontractors for fiber-related projects, ensuring adherence to specifications and schedules.Utilize mapping software to create and update fiber route terpret construction drawings to verify project requirements and ensure accurate fiber installations.Manage right-of-way and permitting processes, working with regulatory agencies and municipalities to ensure compliance.Provide technical guidance to teams on fiber engineering best practices and installation techniques.Assist in addressing customer concerns related to fiber connectivity, service reliability, and maintenance schedules.
