We pull our crews together from our satellite locations to quickly and efficiently answer the call. When a call comes in for the probability of an outage we will travel near and far to aid in the restoration of downed lines.We give back to our local communities and support our IBEW family. GMB Power Line Services LLC operates as well as it does, because our crews and staff are willing to go the extra mile.Position Summary:The Head Fleet Mechanic is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair operations of the company's fleet of specialized vehicles and equipment. This includes supervising a team of highly skilled mechanics, managing preventative maintenance schedules, coordinating major repairs, and ensuring operational readiness for powerline restoration deployments. The position requires a strategic, hands-on professional with advanced technical knowledge and strong leadership capabilities.Responsibilities:Fleet Maintenance and Repair Leadership:Lead diagnostic evaluations and complex repairs.Oversee engine and transmission rebuilds, ensuring timely and quality execution.Manage preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and optimize fleet performance.Ensure fleet compliance with state inspection and regulatory requirements.Conduct quality control inspections to verify that repairs meet the highest standards.Operational Oversight and Team ManagementDirect and supervise a team of mechanics, assigning workloads, and monitoring productivity.Conduct performance evaluations, offer constructive feedback, and develop training programs to enhance technical skills and professional development.Coordinate daily repair activities to maximize efficiency and operational output.Lead safety initiatives and maintain a culture of accountability and continuous ventory and Resourcing OptimizationManage inventory levels, ensuring the availability of critical parts and tools.Coordinate procurement activities, sourcing high-quality components and negotiating vendor agreements.Control maintenance budgets and resource allocation to achieve cost efficiency without compromising quality.Customer and Stakeholder EngagementServe as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, clearly communicating repair needs and timelines.Provide technical insights and recommendations to leadership to improve fleet performance.Support emergency response operations by troubleshooting and performing critical repairs during outages.Education Requirements & Experience Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical certification in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred.Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive or heavy equipment repair, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.Proven expertise in managing and maintaining specialized equipment.West Virginia state inspection license is a plus. Technical SkillsAdvanced diagnostic capabilities for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.Experience with boom, hydraulic systems, and chassis maintenance and repair. Proficiency with fleet management software and systems.Ability to interpret and apply complex technical manuals and schematics.Welding knowledge a plus.
