About the Company:The Assistant Civil Engineer performs professional civil engineering work in the planning, design, technical investigation, review and inspection, and construction of projects in the area of public works including transportation, hydraulics, and structural engineering.About the Role:Participate in the preparation of plans and specifications for the construction of water utility, street, storm drain, street lighting, traffic signal, buildings, and related public works projects; research project design requirements; perform complex calculations, prepare estimates of material costs, and prepare project schedules.Responsibilities:Assign routine inspection, investigation, design, and drafting tasks to technical subordinates; review completed work; assist in the solution of difficult problems.Research codes, standards, publications, and industry information sources.Participate in the development and revision of design and construction standards.Participate in the implementation of agency programs and coordinate major vestigate and assist in the resolution of field problems affecting clients and contractors, including construction, operations and maintenance of public works facilities.Determine and specify survey, mapping, and data collection needs for projects.Prepare estimates, schedules and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures.Participate in the plan check, review, and processing of plans for private developments affecting streets, water and wastewater, drains and related public works facilities and ensure that they meet all agency-imposed requirements.Check plans for compliance with agency standards, codes and ordinances.Prepare special engineering studies and reports.Perform all the essential functions of the Junior Engineer.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering discipline related to the area of assignment. Two years of increasingly responsible experience in engineering work in the area(s) of assignment. Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate.Required Skills:Use mathematics to solve problems.Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.Use scientific rules and methods to solve problems.Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made and asking questions as appropriate.Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.Perform complex professional engineering work by applying engineering principles and techniques with a minimum of supervision.Use sound independent judgment within established guidelines.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and Civil 3D in the preparation of plans and details.Preferred Skills:Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.Use calibrated instruments to measure distances for plans andor maps.Work independently.Direct and review the work of others in a project or day-to-day basis.Analyze complex data, evaluate alternatives, and reach sound, logical conclusions.Prepare clear, concise, and accurate drawings, estimates, reports, records, and municate information and ideas both verbally and in writing so others will understand.Listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences.Arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).Visualize how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.See visual details at close range.Pay range and compensation package:Depends on Experience.
