At the company, we aim to empower science and scientists to solve the world's biggest problems by realizing advanced computing platforms at the intersection of high performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum information technology. We are looking for a diverse set of talented and focused people to accelerate the delivery of useful quantum computers. The company has an internal program pursuing topological qubits for large-scale quantum computing. We are also working closely with a growing list of companies to advance their qubit hardware modalities on the company accelerator platform. The quantum product acceleration team is looking for a quantum hardware engineer to understand, design, and model qubits and their associated architecture on the quantum plane of a quantum computer. You will help accelerate progress and bridge the gap between the hardware engineers making and measuring qubits, such as quantum dots, superconducting circuits, and topological qubits, with members of the architecture, software, and systems integration teams at company and with partner companies in the company platform. Candidates with significant backgrounds in experimental qubit design, fabrication, and test are desired. You will work alongside talented hardware and software engineers---both within the company and with our partners---in a start-up like environment that values speed and people with broad skillsets. The main function of a quantum hardware design engineer in this context is to research, design, develop, and assist in design of quantum devices and relevant hardware. They must bridge the gap between the fundamentals of solid-state components---such as quantum dots, superconducting circuits, and topological qubits---with the quantum architecture and other hardware and software layers of a quantum computer.Responsibilities• Research and describe key aspects of qubit and component technologies.• Propose, design, and simulate novel approaches to qubits and qubit gates.• Interface with modeling, fabrication, measurement, hardware, and systems teams to accelerate key aspects of quantum computer subsystems and products.• An ability to build cryogenic testing systems for solid-state qubits and experience measuring solid-state qubits.• An ability to design and model multiple qubit and quantum gate approaches and significant experience applying that knowledge to the creation of novel quantum plane architectures.• Monitor and have commanding understanding of present-state of relevant technology trends both within and outside the company.• Serve as bridge between our team and hardware development and architecture teams to accelerate the product roadmap to a useful quantum computer.• Evaluate factors such as reporting formats required, cost and schedule constraints, and need for security restrictions to determine product roadmap.Desired Qualifications:• PhD in Physics, Quantum Information Science, or a related discipline, with 2+ years of experience.• Demonstrated ability to build cryogenic experiments and measure solid-state qubits.• Demonstrated deep practical knowledge of solid-state (semiconductor andor superconducting) device physics in domains relevant for quantum computer development.• Demonstrated deep knowledge of approaches to solid-state quantum computer control and architectures at the quantum plane.• Ability to tie scientific progress and milestones to product and product acceleration timelines.• Demonstrated creativity, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and analytical and problem solving ability.• Able to work in fast moving environment with team members who are geographically separated.• Must be willing and able to travel (domestic and international) to support program activities (25%).
