Profile SummaryThe Automation and Controls Principal Engineer is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for the design and installation of mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment, including automation, controls, and metrology systems. This role requires familiarity with various SCADA, IT, and data acquisition systems. The engineer contributes to improving manufacturing yield, process availability, and productivity while standardizing automation and control systems across the organization. Responsibilities include but are not limited to equipment design, installation, commissioning, materials selection, product handling, programming, controls, and safety design. This role reports to a Director within the Global Engineering organization.Job ResponsibilitiesUtilize DMAIC (or similar problem-solving techniques) to resolve complex manufacturing equipment issues.Collaborate with supply chain and operations teams to estimate project costs, prepare business cases, and engage equipment suppliers to achieve global engineering objectives.Apply knowledge of manufacturing techniques and equipment design to enhance current processes or develop new manufacturing solutions that align with internal and customer requirements.Work with multifunctional teams to achieve project goals, track project performance, and effectively communicate updates to leadership.Identify and lead technology transfers of best-known methods to optimize production.Partner with IT teams to define and integrate SCADA and data collection systems with broader IT infrastructure across manufacturing facilities.Manage equipment projects, including training and guiding plant engineering and manufacturing teams.Develop equipment specification protocols in collaboration with purchasing, quality, legal, compliance, and other departments to ensure performance and installation standards.Work closely with global engineering and operations teams to deliver project results using stage gate and CORE methodologies.Serve as a key interface between internal engineerstechnicians and external equipment manufacturers from conceptualization to implementation.Mentor junior engineers to develop leadership and technical capabilities within the organization.Stay up to date with the latest trends in automation, controls, and metrology, sharing insights with the broader engineering team and contributing to technology planning.Job RequirementsEducation:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering (multi-discipline or master's degree preferred).Experience:Minimum of 8 years of experience in automation, controls, or metrology systems engineering.Proficiency in Siemens or Allen Bradley PLCs.Experience programming and integrating Fanuc robots with CNC machines.Proven track record in leadership and mentorship.Experience managing equipment suppliers or integrators.Hands-on experience in designing, developing, building, programming, installing, and validating automated systems.Expertise in commissioning equipment for large-scale capital projects.Experience managing highly automated projects.
