Company Description:We are a venture backed stealth startup in the climate tech sector focused on developing multiple innovative solutions for carbon removal and industrial decarbonization. We are a team of passionate individuals who are committed to creating innovative solutions that address the pressing environmental issues facing our planet today. We are looking for a Director of Process Engineering to scale our process to demonstration scale.Job Summary:As a Director of Process Engineering, you will be responsible for the process design, modeling and optimization of our decarbonization processes. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to ensure the process design is safe, robust, flexible, and scalable. Your role will involve a combination of conceptual design, process modeling, equipment specification, detailed engineering, and operations support. The Director of Process Engineering will also have external facing responsibilities working with EPCs and other technology providers. You should be comfortable with some light constructionfabrication around small diameter (Location: San Jose CAKey Responsibilities:Lead all process engineering scale-up activities through pilot and demonstration scalesDevelop and manage a team of early career process engineersOptimize process design and close heat and material balances through process modeling activities in ASPENPlus.Develop PFDsP&IDs for demonstration plantDesign and specify key process equipment (drums, pumps, heat exchangers, compressors, etc.)Establish process controls and automation requirementsReview all engineering documentation to ensure that the processes meet company standards for safety and environmental complianceLead appropriate process safety reviews such as HAZOP and FMEAManage outside EPC and other technology provider relationshipsQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering; Master's degree preferred.10+ years of experience in chemical process design, preferably in the electrochemical or renewable energy space. (15+ years preferred)Proficiency in process modeling with ASPENPlus, ideally including the thermodynamic and process properties in aqueous electrolyte-based systems.Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, kinetics, mass transfer, and process control.Knowledge of industrial standards for chemical processesExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
