The ideal candidate will have expertise in plastic material selection, injection molding processes, and tooling for automotive applications. This role will focus on ensuring optimal material performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency for interior, exterior, and under-the-hood plastic components.Key Responsibilities:Material Selection: Identify and recommend appropriate plastic materials based on mechanical properties, thermal resistance, durability, and cost-effectiveness for automotive jection Molding Process Optimization: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize molding parameters, improve cycle times, and enhance part quality.Tooling & Mold Design: Work with tooling engineers to ensure molds are designed for efficiency, longevity, and minimal defects such as warpage, sink marks, or flash.Supplier Coordination: Evaluate and work with material suppliers to source high-performance thermoplastics, thermosets, and composites.Testing & Validation: Develop test plans and conduct material performance evaluations, including environmental, chemical, and mechanical testing.Cost & Weight Reduction: Drive initiatives for lightweighting and cost reduction while maintaining performance and regulatory compliance.Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis: Investigate molding defects and implement corrective actions to improve production quality.Regulatory Compliance: Ensure materials and processes meet automotive industry standards such as UL, ISO, ASTM, SAE, and OEM-specific requirements.Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with design engineers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to support product development and launch phases.Qualifications & Skills:Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.5+ years of experience in automotive plastics engineering and injection molding.Strong knowledge of thermoplastics (PP, ABS, PC, PA, PEEK, etc.) and thermoset materials.Experience with injection molding machines, process validation, and mold flow analysis (Moldex3D, Autodesk Moldflow, etc.).Familiarity with automotive interior, exterior, and under-the-hood plastic components.Knowledge of CAE, CAD (CATIA, SolidWorks), and FEA analysis is a plus.Understanding of automotive industry regulations (FMVSS, REACH, RoHS, etc.).Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers in the automotive sector.Knowledge of additive manufacturing and alternative lightweight materials.Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or APQP methodologies.ALTEN Technology is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
