The Executive Director at NAMI Lowcountry provides dynamic leadership, operational oversight, and strategic vision to advance the organization's mission. This role builds strong partnerships with the Board, staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders to achieve organizational goals. Key responsibilities include visionary leadership, operational management, human resources development, financial stewardship, and enhancing community relations and advocacy. The Executive Director fosters teamwork, aligns resources strategically, and steps in with hands-on support when needed to drive impact and promote mental health in inclusive communities.Reports to: Board of DirectorsLocated in: Bluffton, SCAREAS OF RESPONSIBILITYLeadershipProvide leadership to staff and volunteers to achieve goals and objectives and advance its missionParticipate with the Board in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization. Pursue funding and partnering opportunities that enable the plan to succeedIdentify, assess, and inform the Board of internalexternal issues that affect the organizationFoster effective teamwork between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and staffAct as a spokesperson for the organization, along with the President and other Board membersConduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board or jointly with the Board as appropriateRepresent the organization at community activities to enhance the organization's diverse community profile and position the organization for furthering its mission and visibilityOperational Planning and ManagementDevelop an operational plan incorporating goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction and sustainability of the organization Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of its clients, Board, and Funders Oversee efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization, and align resources and job duties to accomplish its goals and objectivesDraft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement the organizational policies; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriateEnsure that personnel, client, donor, and volunteer files are securely stored, and privacyconfidentiality is maintained Organizational Development and ManagementDetermine staffing requirements for organizational management and program deliveryOversee implementation of HR policies, procedures, and practices including the development of job descriptions for all staffEstablish positive and safe work environment following all appropriate legislation and regulationsRecruit, interview, and select staff with the right technical and personal abilities to help further the missionImplement a performance management process for all staff that includes monitoring the performance of staff on an ongoing basis and conducting an annual performance reviewCoach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance Financial planning and managementWork with staff and Board Treasurer to prepare a comprehensive budgetEnsure that sound nonprofit organization bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed and that required tax and other filings are submittedAdminister funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organizationCommunity RelationsAdvocacyInform fundersmembers on the work of the organization and identify changes in the diverse communities served by the organizationEstablish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with diverse community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organizationParticipate in fundraising activities as neededQUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, public health, social work, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).5+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit management, mental health services, or a related field.Proven track record of strategic planning, fundraising, and financial management within a nonprofit organization.Experience working with diverse communities and building collaborative relationships with stakeholders, funders, and community petence in budgeting, financial planning, and management of nonprofit bookkeeping processes.Knowledge of nonprofit tax regulations and compliance requirements.Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, including staff and volunteers, toward achieving organizational goals.Strong experience in operational planning, policy development, and implementation.
