Mechanical Design EngineerLocation: Lyndhurst, VAAbout the RoleLHH is supporting our client in the search for a Mechanical Design Engineer based in Lyndhurst, VA. This position is ideal for someone with 3-6+ years of experience in system design, particularly in the foodbeverage and HVAC sectors, and with a passion for growth and advancing their career. As a key member of the engineering team, you will lead the design of mechanical systems for industrial refrigeration applications, ensuring compliance with performance and sustainability goals. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, oversee design processes, and contribute to the optimization of complex refrigeration systems.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design of mechanical rooms, rooftop penthouses, piping systems, and other components of industrial refrigeration systemsPerform advanced engineering calculations (e.g., tolerance dimensions, thermal analysis, structural considerations)Ensure designs comply with industry regulations, company procedures, and client standardsSubmit detailed drawings for review by upper management, fabrication, and construction teamsProvide technical support during the building and installation process to ensure systems match the design specificationsBuild Bills of Materials (BOM) and input data into the ERP systemCollaborate with the fabrication team during the manufacturing processWork with the purchasing team to ensure timely, accurate material ordersCommunicate with vendors regarding part specifications and fabrication requirementsOccasionally mentor junior engineers, offering guidance on design best practices and technical challengesRequirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering 3-6+ years of experience in mechanical system design, with a focus on refrigeration systemsStrong proficiency in AutoCAD (Inventor, SolidWorks, or other CAD programs also acceptable)A strong understanding of engineering principles, especially in mechanical and refrigeration systemsAbility to work both independently and as part of a teamOccasional field travel to job sites based on project needs (approximately 2-3 trips per year)PE certification is a huge bonus, or an interest in obtaining itAbout the CompanyOur client is an innovative, owner-operated company that has experienced significant growth, increasing headcount by 50% last year.
