DevResearch Engineer 2 Chillicothe, IL 12 monthsJob Description As part of the LPSD Large Engine Digital Insights group, you will have the opportunity to learn from and contribute to a cooperative team by creating, executing and maintaining computer processes which monitor engine health. In this position, you will build your technical, engine expertise while learning product condition monitoring through practical application. You will also build your professional network and engage with peers from many engineering disciplines. This position is responsible for using product data to support engineering staff in creating, executing and maintaining computer analytical processes which monitor engine health data. The team member will learn to query large data sets to complete engineering data studies.The work will involve engineering support for large diesel, gas and dual fuel engines used in a variety of applications. Major Responsibilities include:- Coding engine health monitoring concepts into successful monitoring processes- Analyzing monitoring algorithms and scripted processes for improvement; working with team to execute improvements- Maintaining monitoring algorithms and scripted processes and replicating to new engine products- Analyze data to answer specific design and validation questions in the area of preventative maintenance and root cause analysis. Complete requested data studies.- Investigate equipment failure root cause and make recommendations on improvement.Skills: - Demonstrated coding in python. SQL is also a plus. Coding proficiency. Desire to code. It is a major part of the job.- Team player and detail oriented.- Analytical and statistical knowledge. Applied analytics. Problem solving ability.- Communication - written and verbal skills. - Engine or industrial component or mechanical aptitude. Maintenance or product health experience. EducationExperience:- Bachelor's degree in engineering required. Mechanical Engineering preferred. Higher degrees welcome.- 2-4 years experience required.Position's Contributions to Work Group: Execute data analysis requests. This may include data studies, condition monitoring content creation, dashboards, or other project work. Full engagement with team activities. A typical day involves coding engine health algorithms, data mining to validate the engine health algorithms, and data mining and analysis to support product problems. One might move between several tasks in the day, or stay focused on a single task. The time is spent in front of a computer writing code to analyze and visualize data. Results are discussed with other team members, and the tasks are refined based upon each result. Work environment: - Office; in-front of a computer. There are daily team meetings (in person or virtual)- Position is on-site a minimum of 3 days a week. It may be 5 days a week onsite in the future. Education & Experience Required: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. 2-4 years engineering experience required (combination of internship experience and hands on work experience). - Desired: Formal analytical or statistical training is a plus. Engine experience. TOP three technical skills - Strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills- Desire to code in computer languages used by the team, currently python and , SQL- Mechanical aptitude and vocabulary (Desired) - Engine experience- Strong proficiency in statistical methods- Applied statisticalanalytical experienceTop three Soft Skills(Required)- Creativity, team player- Good verbal and written communication skills- Attention to detail
