As a pioneer in Texas for assisting animals in need, we operate a lifesaving animal shelter in Carrollton, TX. Our programs include pet adoptions, foster care, affordable veterinary services, a pet food pantry, and volunteer opportunities.Position Overview:As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will play a crucial role in shaping the organization's financial strategy, ensuring financial health, and promoting sustainability. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in financial planning, forecasting, and reporting while fostering a culture of transparency, compliance, and operational excellence. The CFO oversees the Accounting team, which includes Senior Director - Accounting, Accounting Manager, Staff Accountant, Bookkeeper and Gift Processing Coordinator.Key Responsibilities:Financial Strategy & Leadership: Lead the development of long-term financial strategies to support the mission and goals of Operation Kindness. Provide actionable strategic recommendations to the CEO and senior leadership team to ensure the organization remains financially sound and well-positioned for growth.Annual Budget Development: Coordinate the preparation and development of the organization's annual budget. Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure appropriate planning and allocation of resources across departments.Budget Monitoring & Adjustments: Continuously monitor financial performance versus budget and provide timely recommendations for adjustments as necessary to ensure financial targets are met.Audit Oversight: In collaboration with the Senior Director of Accounting, facilitate the audit process including financial data collection and presentation, follow up requestsquestions and audit report review. Communicate audit findings with CEO and Board of Directors. Implement agreed upon recommendations and make any necessary corrections.990 Oversight: In collaboration with the Senior Director of Accounting, ensure the accurate and timely preparation and filing of the form 990 including financial data collection, follow up requestsquestions and form pliance & Regulatory Oversight: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards. Stay current on non-profit financial regulations and guide the organization in maintaining its nonprofit status.Cash Flow & Forecasting: Oversee cash flow planning and forecasting, ensuring the availability of funds necessary for day-to-day operations and future initiatives.Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage risks to the organization's capital, earnings, and operations. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and protect the organization's financial vestment Oversight: Support the Investment Committee of the Board in planning investment strategies. Ensure that the organization's investment practices are compliant with established strategies and goals.Financial Communication: Serve as the primary financial spokesperson for the organization. Communicate financial information effectively to staff, the Board of Directors, and external parties (including donors, funders, and stakeholders).Accounting & GAAP Compliance: Supervise the accounting department, ensuring financial operations adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards. Maintain the integrity of financial reporting and ensure accurate, timely financial statements.Predictive Modeling & Financial Analysis: Develop and implement forward-looking, predictive financial models and activity-based analyses to provide valuable insight into the organization's operations, resource allocation, and long-term plans.Qualifications:Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance (Preferred), or related field. MBA andor CPA also preferred but not required.Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization).Strong knowledge of financial management, GAAP. Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting and IRS regulations related to 501(c)(3) organizations preferred.Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and risk management.Ability to communicate complex financial information to a wide range of audiences, including non-financial stakeholders.High level of integrity and transparency, with a strong commitment to Operation Kindness' mission.Experience in managing and mentoring a team, with the ability to inspire and collaborate with staff at all levels.Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling and analysisBackground checks and drugs screens are part of the hiring process.Operation Kindness is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
