Mechanical Design Engineer IIDoes working on challenging problems in a fast-paced, small business start-up environment with highly competent teammates sound appealing to you? We are looking for a full-time design engineer to add to our team. The ideal candidate will be insatiably curious, fast learner, strongly self-motivated and use a hands-on approach to problem solving. Our business model relies on agility. As such, our teams are small, and each team member learns to perform a variety of functions. We value diversity and place an emphasis on creating a welcoming and collaborative culture.Typical Responsibilities:Lead Mechanical design (such as layout or component sizing)Creation of 3D models and drawingsMachine and rework partsAssemble and test hardwareManage the project and interface with customers and suppliersParticipate in operations planning and maintenanceOperate as a key element in a team of creative, independent individualsDocument work and create reports as neededOther duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in EngineeringExcellent verbal, written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsAbility to work in a team environmentUnited States Citizenship, or the legal ability to work in the U.S.Note: We regularly work with export-controlled data and are unable to provide sponsorship5 years' experience (or 3 years with an MS degree)Preferred Qualifications:Mechanism design experience and manufacturing knowledge3D Modeling capability with understanding of dimensioning and tolerancingMechanical analysis (Finite Element, MatlabSimulink, Mathcad, Excel)Relevant classes: structural dynamics, kinematics, vibrations, finite element analysis, and strength of materialsWork Location Hours:Mostly on-site in Amherst, NY (near UB North campus)Intermittent remote work as neededHours are flexibleApech Labs is a small business that supports the aerospace, military and energy industries through rapid prototyping and product development.
