We empower employees to create a better future by upholding safety standards, solving complex problems, continuous improvement, and fostering inclusivity. Every part and every voice matters.JOB DESCRIPTION:A machinist is a skilled professional who operates and maintains precision machinery to create metal parts and components according to specifications. Machinists work in various industries, including manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and engineering, where precision and accuracy are critical.JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:• Machine Operation: Machinists use various machines, such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) equipment, to shape, cut, and finish metal parts. They set up and program machines to perform specific operations.• Blueprint Interpretation: Machinists read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to understand the dimensions, tolerances, and features required for the part. They use this information to determine the appropriate machining processes.• Material Selection: Depending on the project requirements, machinists select suitable materials such as metals, plastics, or composites. They consider material properties, durability, and the part's intended use.• Tool Selection and Setup: Machinists choose appropriate cutting tools, drills, and other accessories needed for the machining process. They install and align tools accurately in the machines to achieve precise cuts and finishes.• Machining Processes: Machinists perform various machining processes, including turning, drilling, milling, grinding, and threading, to shape and refine the workpiece. They follow established procedures to ensure accuracy and quality.• Programming CNC Machines: For CNC equipment, machinists create or modify computer programs that control the machine's movements and operations. This requires knowledge of programming languages and CADCAM software.• Measurement and Inspection: Machinists use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify the dimensions and quality of the machined parts. They make adjustments as needed to meet specifications.• Quality Control: Ensuring the quality of the finished parts is crucial. Machinists inspect the parts for defects, deviations, and irregularities and make necessary corrections to achieve precise dimensions and tolerances.• Maintenance: Machinists perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure they operate smoothly and accurately. This includes cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn-out components.• Safety Practices: Machinists adhere to safety guidelines and protocols, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring a safe working environment.• Documentation: They maintain accurate records of machining processes, programs used, materials used, and inspection results.• Collaboration: Machinists often collaborate with engineers, designers, and other team members to optimize designs and troubleshoot issues.REQUIREMENTS:• High school diploma or equivalent• Completion of a machining program or apprenticeship• Proficiency in using various machine tools and equipment.• Knowledge of blueprint reading and interpretation• Experience with CNC programming and CADCAM software• Strong mathematical and technical skills• Attention to detail and precision in measurements.• Problem-solving abilities• Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods.
