SUMMARYThe Robotics and Automation Engineer supports and maintains the I4.0 Robotics and Industrial Automation Lab, other Industry 4.0 Labs, and other labs related to robotics and automation; actively participates in planning and development of lab capabilities; supports implementation of robotics and automation curriculum, including safety training and supervision of students working in the robotics and automation labs; provides technical support to faculty and students engaged in robotics or automation research; and represents the department for tours and on-campus recruiting events when requested.QUALIFICATIONSBachelors of engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics or related field from an ABET accredited school preferred but industrial experience is an acceptable alternative.Robotic, industrial automation, or industry 4.0 experience strongly desired. Experience with Allen-Bradley and Emulate3D software is preferred.RESPONSIBILITIESSupports the I4.0 Robotics and Industrial Automation Lab and other labs related to robotics and automation. This includes robotic arms, conveyor, PLCs, other industrial automation equipment, laboratory control system equipment, laboratory data acquisition equipment, relevant softwarecomputer systems as well as establishing written procedures for maintenance, calibration, and use of such laboratory equipment in coordination with faculty. Maintains the lab capabilities. Establish, monitor, carry-out, and document a maintenance and repair system for specified equipment within the labs. This includes but is not limited to: development of and periodic updates to safety training for lab usage, upkeep of safety training records, perform regular preventative maintenance and updates, troubleshoot faults or failures of developed demonstrations, work with vendors to quote and purchase replacements for worn, damaged, or missing components, periodic update of display materials (e.g., video and poster), and clean-up of lab interior beyond what is typically expected of janitorial staff.Actively participate in planning and development of lab capabilities. This includes but is not limited to: collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and update roadmap for lab capabilities, research options for software and hardware updates to the labs, work with vendors to quote and purchase major hardware and software updates as approved by the MRIE department, install and commission hardware and software updates, develop safety and training materials for hardware and software updates.Supports implementation of robotics and automation curriculum. This includes but is not limited to: administer safety training to students prior to lab usage, supervise small groups of students working in the labs in coordination with course instructor.Provide technical support to faculty and students engaged in robotics and automation research. This includes but is not limited to: administer safety training to researchers prior to lab usage, temporarily supervise some aspects of funded research projects under general supervision of principal investigator, contribute (as appropriate to skills, training, and project involvement) to writing of reports, technical papers, or PENSATIONCompensation will be commensurate with experience.
