SummaryObjective: The MEP Estimator is responsible for providing a complete estimate on commercial and industrial projects upon assignment by the Estimating Manager. Projects involved will mainly be industrialmanufacturing plants. Commercial projects may involve Office, University Facilities, Healthcare, Laboratories, Data Centers, and Central PlantsThe Estimator must be a self-starter with the ability to assemble MEP estimates with moderate supervision. The Estimator must be a flexible and adaptable team player with good communication skills.Essential FunctionsReview all construction documents including Instructions to Bidders, Bid Forms and Scope of WorkSolicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of workDistribute plans, specifications and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company ftp website andor emailParticipate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as required which may result in travel time on occasionWork as part of a team to coordinate scope of work between in-house trades (Sheet Metal, Fire Protection, Plumbing, Electrical, Steel, Millwrights) as requiredTake-off all equipment and material for trade specific scope of work utilizing the Tekla PowerFab (Trimble) computerized estimating system.Enter all material, labor, sub pricing, vendor pricing, equipment rentals and other costs into bid summary a day or two before bid due dateThoroughly review all take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed workReview in detail assigned subcontractor and vendor quotations for full compliance with the plans and specificationsReview and enter required equipment rentals for the steel trade scope of workProvide trade specific scope of work to Preconstruction Manager for incorporation into proposalsUpon award of projects, assist in procurement of materials and equipment as requiredEnter the steel trade estimate into job cost control program and participate in turnovertransition meetings with the Operations teamPerforms other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibility: NoRequired 2+ years' experience Estimating Pre-Construction andor equivalent combination of vocational training and experience5+ years of experience in structural steelmiscellaneous metals, pipe, or Sheet Metal construction ( industrial andor commercial)Knowledge and efficiency in computernetwork based estimating software (Tekla, Fabtrol, Fabsuite or equivalent)A solid and thorough understanding of structural and miscellaneous metal drawings and detailsUnderstanding and capable of doing "take offs" for commercial construction jobs.Experience in providing budgets, construction schedules, and manpower projectionsTime management skills and organizational skillsAbility to follow and understand directionsAbility to consistently meet deadlinesGood technical writing and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Excel and WordMust be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skillsMust be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)Must adhere to all company policy and proceduresMust be available to work assigned schedulesThe work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:Work Environment:Works in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipmentPosition may require visits to construction sitePhysical Demands:This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, etc. Site visits will require walking through existing buildings, industrial plants andor on-going construction sites. This will involve stairs and at times ladders on multiple floorslevels.Travel:May require infrequent travel (typically not overnight)Preferred AAS or BS Degree: Engineering, Construction Management or 5+ years' experience in the construction industryExperience with MS Project or other scheduling softwareHS diploma or GED equivalentPrior military experience
