The result is state-of-the-art fire rescue vehicles recognized for superior firefighting and rescue capabilities.SCOPE: The Production Manager is responsible leading a team of salaried and direct labor associates in the manufacture and assembly of products, components and parts for custom fire and rescue vehicles, and strategically directing the operations to deliver the highest quality product while maximizing company profit. The Manager position is responsible for leading multiple production departmentslines and typically includes responsibility of an entire facility or multiple facilities. The Manager is accountable for setting a strategic direction in line with company missions and visions. This position requires expert knowledge and application of lean manufacturing principles to drive continuous improvement in meeting company goals and objectives. This position has great emphasis on highly skilled processes, complex assemblies and testing and the Manager must possess a high level of technical skill to assist the Operations team in troubleshooting and problem resolution. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:• Directly leads and supervises a manufacturing team of Production Supervisors and hourly employees in all manufacturing processes in a facility or multiple facilities. Must also take a leadership role in activities outside of direct span of control, such as Product Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, etc. • Responsible to ensure all production areas are scheduled and staffed appropriately to meet schedule commitments and cycle time requirements. Prioritizes and manages the workflow within all departments to ensure timely and efficient task completion in accordance with the production schedule. Provides the resources required to the manufacturing team to meet commitments. • Responsible for medium to long term range planning activities such as line-set up, equipment capacity, material flow, and employee staffing to meet customer demand and takt time requirements. • Assumes leadership role in identifying and coordinating maintenance activity on plant and equipment, identification of plant needs for safetysecurity and any risk mitigation needs as required. Ensures all equipment, materials, tools and processes used are of the highest quality and all production standards are followed. • Working expertise in value stream mapping and managing the business through current statefuture state improvements. Directs the development, planning and execution of the value stream. Owns facility(s) andor responsible department value stream maps. • Participates in company goal setting, deployment and strategic planning activities, typically detailing 1st level improvement initiatives and sets targets to improve. Sets strategic direction for the plantfacility in accordance with business goals and objectives. Leads project activities and directs, coaches, mentors employees. • Assumes leadership and expertise of lean manufacturing principles. Accountable for the implementation and sustainment of lean within areas of responsibility. Must be change agent and ambassador for continuous improvement. Must be able to teachtrain employees at all levels on the concepts of lean. Must proactively lead the engagement of all personnel in the implementation of the principles and tools of lean. • Accountable for ensuring all quality, regulatory and ISO requirements are met. Responsible to make sure appropriate actions are taken to meet all requirements, including stopping production if appropriate. • Reviews all work within the department to assure technical accuracy of the work meets customer requirements, engineering design expectations as documented in shop orders, engineering prints, bills of material, work instructions and quality documentation. Assures all workmanship standards are met. • Responsible for safety and environmental compliance of the facility and surrounding grounds. Holds departmental employees accountable for following all OSHA and company policies and regulations. Actively leads safety improvement initiatives. • Responsible for development, compliance and enforcement of all company policies and procedures. Ensures consistent and effective employee relations. Recommends rewardsrecognition as appropriate. Initiates necessary disciplinary actions as required. • Communicates and interfaces with other senior leaders driving effective liaisons with other departments such as Materials, Engineering, Sales Administration, Product Management. Provides technical expertise for problem resolution and drives root cause and corrective actions. • Responsible for meeting established department budgets. Leads activities for staffing requirements and selection of departmental personnel. Determines area budget goals for personnel, equipment, supplies and other cost elements to assure ongoing company profitability. • Evaluates and verifies employee performance through review of completed work assignments, work techniques and leadership skills. Builds and mentors individuals and teams and identifies staff developmenttraining needs. Conducts the training or otherwise ensures that training is obtained.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS• High School Diploma. Associate or Bachelors degree preferred.• Minimum 10 years work related experience, 7 years in Supervisory or Leadership capacityo Practical experience can include electrical, mechanical, welding, metal fabrication, etc..o Experience in vehicle production or custom manufacturing environment• Excellent business acumen. Previous experience with P&L or Cost Center responsibility• Detailed knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes• Thorough understanding and application of lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with demonstrated team building and conflict resolution ability. Excellent employee and human relations skills.• Excellent computer skills. Ability to learn and use company specific systems.• Knowledge and experience with regulatory agency requirements such as NFPA, FAA, DOT, etc.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. LiftPushPull- When exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally-get assistance, andor up to 40 pounds of force frequently, andor up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.2. Climbing- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs andor hands and arms.3. Stooping- Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.4. Kneeling- Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.5. Standing- Particularly for sustained periods of time.7. Walking- Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.8. The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performing mechanical tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment9.
