Job Summary: The Fleet Diesel Mechanic will perform repairs, maintenance, and inspections on a variety of diesel-powered vehicles in the company's fleet. The mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical problems, conducting repairs, and ensuring that all vehicles meet safety and operational standards. Key Responsibilities: Perform Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and perform scheduled maintenance on fleet vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks. Diagnose Mechanical Issues: Use diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic problems with engines, transmissions, braking systems, and other vehicle components. Repairs and Replacements: Repair or replace defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, air brakes, and suspension systems. Ensure that parts are in good working condition and that repairs are completed promptly. Troubleshoot Electrical and Electronic Systems: Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems, including wiring, battery, and control systems. Record Maintenance and Repairs: Keep accurate records of all inspections, repairs, and maintenance work performed on each vehicle. Compliance with Safety Standards: Ensure all repairs and maintenance are done in compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Coordinate with Fleet Manager: Communicate effectively with the fleet manager regarding vehicle condition, repair timelines, and parts inventory. Keep Work Area Clean and Organized: Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are in good condition. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; some positions may require an associate degree or technical certification in diesel mechanics or a related field. Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or technician, particularly with fleet vehicles. In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, heavy-duty trucks, and related systems (braking, electrical, fuel, exhaust, etc.). Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment. Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and replace mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver's license (commercial driver's license [CDL] may be required depending on the job). Preferred Qualifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in diesel engines or related fields. CDL with endorsements for operating diesel vehicles (if required). Experience with fleet management software or vehicle tracking systems. Work Environment: The work is typically performed in a shop or garage setting. May require some outdoor work, especially when vehicles are in the field and need emergency repairs. Exposure to loud noise, vehicle fumes, and physical labor, including lifting heavy parts. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment, often weighing up to 50 lbs or more. Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, and work in tight spaces. Salary range: $60,000 - $100,000 yearly
