SUMMARY:The Staff Accountant - Payroll is responsible for preparing semi-monthly payroll and assisting the Sr. Accounting Manager, Grant Accountant and CFO in all aspects of payroll accounting. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintains payroll functions to assure accuracy, timely completion, and compliance with Alivio policies and procedures.Develops and maintains payroll system and processing schedules.Generate semi-monthly payroll accruals.Create and generate payroll reports semimonthly.Processes and transmits payroll to the payroll provider.Maintains payroll records, and reviews and analyze semi-monthly payroll.Updates employee personal information such as leave policies, direct deposit, tax withholding. Updates custom fields when employees change positions within the organization to indicate type of position.Applies garnishments, tax liens, child support, court-ordered, and bankruptcy deductions accurately, and provides response to agency when such notifications are receivedTracks employee benefits and determines pay eligibility for Vacation, Holiday, Sick and Personal time.Responsible for analysis and reconciliation, account inquiry and database vestigation and adjustment of transactions occurring in the payroll system.Processes check request for voluntary and involuntary employee deductions (AFLAC, TSA, United Way, Health Insurance, Union dues, 403b Contributions etc.).Prepares monthly statistics, such as salary distribution, U.S. Department of Labor, Overtime Earnings, EEO data and others.Performs special projects requested by the Chief Executive Officer, CFO, Sr. Accounting Manager and Grant Accounting Administrator.Performs special projects as required, such as research, analysis, and copying, faxing, typing, mailing correspondence.Performs other job related duties as assigned by Senior Accounting Manager.Maintains current and accurate payroll records.Prepares and maintains all payroll reports. Makes necessary changes to payroll report when new paydeduction codes are addedupdated in the system.Understands and updates fields for custom reports to get desired output.Prepares monthly bank transfer schedule.Assist in monitoring grants payroll expenditures.Assist in budget and expense analysis for program grants on a monthly basis and make accounting journal entries on an as required basis.Participates in professional development activities.Assist in providing information to external auditors (A-133) and third party auditors.Assist in preparation of payroll data required for cost reports, and other regulatory reports.Perform quarterly internal audit of payroll.Create additional payroll processes, procedures and reports when required.Problem solve payroll matters and inquiries.This position requires compliance with all of Alivio' s written standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Joint Commission standards, all policies and procedures and Corporate Compliance requirements. Compliance will be considered as part of the regular performance evaluation.QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree in AccountingFinance with strong core knowledge of accounting principles preferred; or 4 years' experience with payroll processing and compliance preferred.Certification or Licensure:Minimum of two years experience in payroll procedures. Previous accounting and payroll experience preferred. Certified Payroll Profession or Fundamental Payroll Certification from American Payroll Association preferred.Experience:Two years directly related experience. Experience with ADP Payroll Processing strongly preferred.Demonstrated Competencies:Ability to work well under pressure, ability to meet deadlines, well organized and handle confidential data and information. Must be a team player. Ability to maintain effective working relationships. Strong communication, analytical and intermediate computer skills. (WordExcel) skills Knowledge of office practices and payroll procedures.
