We have an opportunity for a Senior Engineer - Payloads to join our engineering team in our Columbia, Maryland, facility. In this role, you will provide the design, development, andor implementation of engineering products, methods, and technical processes. This position works independently on moderately complex technical projects while assisting on larger complex projects of a technical nature. May conduct basic and applied research to evaluate materials and equipment for applicability in design and manufacture. Improvements in testing equipment and techniques may be recommended. The scope of the position requires a proven track record in a lead role in developing requirements for multi-segment (hardwaresoftwarenetwork) payloads for Airborne Surveillance & Communication Solutions on accredited programs.Working Procedure:The following are the usual major job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of others or duties by the incumbent, nor does it raise the question of the proper rate of pay for the assignment.Responsible for the design, development, testing, and implementation of engineering processes, methods, and productsWorks under supervision and technical oversight on projects or subsystems of a technical natureSupports the generation of written documentation in a team environment to include engineering drawings, engineering standards, engineering specifications, technical proposals, test procedures, technical manuals, disclosures, and scientific discoveriesWorks as part of integrated product teams with other cross-functional professional employees in the execution of engineering functionsWorks independently on small to moderately complex projects or assists on large complex projects of a technical natureReceives guidance from, and interfaces with, peers, senior engineers, and other professional employees in the execution of engineering functionsDefines and analyzes the technical requirements for assigned engineering tasksGenerates, modifies, and upgrades mathematical models to predict design performanceUses commercial and proprietary simulation tools in developing and evaluating designsPlans, schedules and organizes the assignments with guidanceAcquires information from all relevant sources, including industry and government standards, handbooks, textbooks, and reference manualsKnowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and modelsFollows industry and internal design guidelines and methodologiesAnalyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problemsSupport internal and customer design reviewsGenerates reports, white papers, and technical memorandaPerform research and analysis of technical issues to develop solutions to meet design objectivesWorks to complete tasks within cost and schedule constraintsProvide feedback and make recommendations to improve designs and reduce cost andor scheduleConduct testing and develop prototypes to validate designsDocuments the design developmentSupport multiple assignments on different design product teamsUse the infrastructure to accomplish objectivesSupport production, testing, and field operations in improving designsApplies scientific principles, tools, and techniques to achieve practical results. Tools are objective in nature, utilizing quantitative or analytical techniquesMaintain engineering skills consistent with advances in technologyAbility to understand all levels of requirements, including direct customer negotiation and flow-downAbility to work with Design engineering to develop verification and validation requirementsExperience in the development and ownership of detailed CDRLs (CONOPS, Initialization, etc)Experience designing, integrating, testing, and operating optical, radar, and RF systemsPerform other duties and responsibilities as assignedEducation Requirement: Bachelor's degree in Engineering in a related discipline; Master's degree preferred.Experience Requirement: A minimum of eight years of experience developing EO sensors and communication systems in developing EO sensor, communication, andor radar systems is required. Advanced degrees can be substituted for job experience pending review. Working knowledge in system-level development, requirements definition, analysis, and risk mitigation for complex systems used on accredited programs. Experience with Verification and Validation requirements. Experience generating requirements using Model-Based Systems engineering andor DOORS is preferred.
