OP achieves its work through four key programs: Brilliant Baby, College Access, College Access, and College Completion.About the RoleThe Program Coordinator is responsible for generating the number of scholarship applications required to meet College Access goals annually. The Coordinator will support students in applying for the Oakland Promise scholarship through organizing, executing, and participating related events and workshops at an assigned cohort of Oakland high schools; support the administration, assessment, and awarding process for the OP scholarship; and will build relationships with students, parents, college access partners, school site staff, and other relevant persons to ensure that the work of the College Access Team addresses the needs of all students, including those historically underrepresented. Under the supervision of the College Access Program Manager, the Program Coordinator will:School ProgrammingCoordinate scholarship and college application crunch events with high school counselors and partners. Support partner schools and students with submission of FAFSA, CA Dream Act andor CSS Profile by institutional priority deadlinesImplement site based andor virtual college access workshops. Collaborate with the Impact and Evaluation team to ensure timely collection of impact dataEstablish productive working relationships with counselors, teachers, targeted initiatives and programs, at assigned high schoolsCoordinate and implement programming with college access collaborative partnersScholarship WorkEnsure that a cohort of schools (16-18) receive the support needed to generate the required number of OP Scholarship applications through direct services as well as through partnerships with relevant content providers.Promote Oakland Promise scholarships and CSAs to students, parents, and educators through classroom presentations and tabling opportunities. Implement marketing and outreach strategies to ensure all eligible Oakland students apply to the Oakland Promise scholarship through workshop facilitation, one-on-one advising and event coordination.Manage scholarship outreach and communication with students and scholarship applicants.Screen and assess scholarship applications for accuracy and quality. Support the administration of the OP Scholarship, the assessment of scholarship applications, and the awarding processOtherSupport in event planning for workshops, training, and scholarship program retreats.Engage actively in professional development opportunities including conferences, workshops, team meetings, observations and debrief cycles, webinars, and department meetings.Maintain a strong working knowledge of colleges and universities, which includes staying current on 6-12 education policy as it relates to college access work.Support with at least three organization-wide events each year, outside of College Access requirements.Attend school events and OP meetings as required.Other related duties and projects as assigned.Some evening and weekend hours will be required.Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with under-resourced youth and managing programsprojects, along with proven track record of successful relationships and program impact. Alternatively, an Associate's degree with a minimum 4 years experience in the same capacity will also be consideredKnowledge of higher education financing, student financial aid, and postsecondary education entrance processes as well as financial aid processes for undocumented youthExcellent organizational skills, attention to details, and ability to manage multiple competing deadlinesExperience with Salesforce platforms and toolsExcellent interpersonal and writing skillsExperience with public speakingDeep commitment to and passion for the vision of the Oakland Promise: That every child in Oakland will graduate from high school with the expectations, skills, and resources to complete college and be successful in a career of their choiceAbility to pass a background check, and TB testProficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointOwn a vehicle for travel to sitePreferred QualificationsExperience offering direct services to high priority students, families, and communities in 6-12 schools.Experience in either college access and persistence, high school advising, or related fields. Oakland Promise requires that employees work in person at various engagements. Currently, Oakland Promise staff are working in a hybrid model, with some work being done remotely and some work being done in the office or at specific locations in or around Oakland. It is a requirement that all staff reside within commuting distance to the main office, located at 484 9th Street, Oakland, CA 94607.
