Position Summary: We're looking for highly motivated wine and spirits professionals to represent our full and growing portfolio in the NYC metro area. We do not cap the size of account runs or earnings. Earning potential is entirely based on work ethic, dedication, ambition, and talent. Banville will provide a healthy, active account run to get started. All sales reps call on both restaurant and retail operations. In essence, the rep manages their own small business with the company providing necessary tools and support. Outwardly, the job is to sell exceptional wines and spirits, but in practice a sales rep acts as a business consultant, drawing from expertise and experience. Each account is unique in their needs and by helping them be as competitive as possible, the sales rep will prosper. General Responsibilities: *Regular account calls, sampling wines and spirits relevant to their program *Providing accounts with updates on inventory, pricing, and new items *Managing the ordering process and delivering exemplary service *Attending monthly sales meetings for continual, intensive education *Opening new accounts; NYC has over 30K active licenses! *Apprising management on marketplace trends *Collaborating w/ Portfolio Managers on opportunities *Attending trade seminars, lunches, and tastings *Working with visiting winemakers as a conduit to NYC *Creating a strong market presence while promoting a culture of excellence *Using technological tools and data to inform an effective strategy Professional Requirements Education/Professional Experience: College degree or equivalent experience plus 1 - 3 years of experience with a NY/NJ wholesale, supplier, or restaurant/retail wine sales role. Skills and Qualities: Intense passion for fine wine and spirits of all origins and price points coupled with situational awareness to translate this talent into sales. Time management and strong organizational skills are critical, as well as the ability to prioritize the demands of the position. Each day presents a set of challenges that must be addressed in a timely manner to effectively support accounts and their individual needs. A convivial attitude and versatile personality that creates meaningful and lasting connections with accounts and colleagues. This includes respecting and mentoring all employees at any given account, as today's assistant is tomorrow's decision maker. Self-motivation and the ability to take direction is the difference between a perfunctory representative and one who rises to become a top earner. The use of current and yet to be developed technologies is increasingly important. Eager adoption of these tools to maximum effect is essential to success right now, and more so in the future. Must be an effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fast, concise and comprehensive communication is the key to success. Shy personalities and those easily deterred by initial rejection will always struggle in this field. Product Knowledge: Candidates must possess a working knowledge of all major regions, as well as benchmark producers (not just within Banville's existing portfolio). This extends beyond the memorization of soil types and appellation regulations to include familiarity with other portfolios in which you will be competing against. Swiftly assessing an account's preferences and relationships with just a glance at the shelf/wine list is an important skill that adds value to the customer. Institutional knowledge of NYC's distribution history is desirable but not a requirement. Physical Requirements: Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, matching the dedication and do-what-it-takes disposition of our customers. Must be able to travel locally within assigned territory by car, rideshare, or public transportation for up to 8 hours a day, 4+ days a week. Must be able to travel on occasion including overnight stays both domestic and international. Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds. Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is commission based with no upper limit. A stabilizing salary commensurate with experience will be provided in the early stages of employment while you become fully acquainted with our portfolio and your accounts. When projected commissions exceed the starting salary, the transition will be implemented, and you will begin to earn more.
