Salary : $32,646.00 - $34,278.00 Annually Location : Laurinburg, NC Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 00779 Department: Public Buildings Opening Date: 01/03/2025 Closing Date: 1/17/2025 11:59 PM Eastern Description Performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance, landscape and care of County grounds and related County property; performs technical semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings and facilities. Performs or assists with performing a variety of grounds, facility, and equipment maintenance and repair activities including mowing, weed eating, spraying weeds, trimming bushes, planting flowers and bushes, fall leaf control, pressure washing, moving furniture and file cabinets, assembly of office furniture, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, and irrigation system. Work involves tasks at a variety of buildings and surrounding grounds, and remodeling projects. Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Tasks Cutting grass, trimming, edging, mulching, weeding and other landscape and grounds maintenance activities. Operates and performs regular maintenance on a variety of hand tools and power equipment including, but not limited to, zero-turn and push mowers, tractors, trucks, hedge trimmers, loppers, weed eaters, blowers, chain saws, pole saws, shovels, rakes, stump grinders, ladder, and other light equipment for landscaping and tree maintenance activities. Performs all aspects of tree and shrub maintenance including hedge and tree trimming; tree removal; pruning; removing fallen limbs and trash; and raking leaves. Plants shrubbery, flowers, and grass; waters, weeds, fertilizes, mixes and applies pesticides and herbicides, and mulches plants. Performs leaf blowing and removal and pressure washing. Shovels and removes snow and ice; spreads sand over icy sidewalks and walkways. Picks up trash in parking lots and on County grounds. Moves and sets up voting equipment, furniture, and file cabinets. Performs regular maintenance and repairs in County facilities including parks, athletic fields, and a splash pad. Performs or assists with a variety of carpentry tasks including building and repairing shelves, desks and cabinets, and painting a variety of surfaces. Minor repairs on playground equipment, picnic tables, fences, gates, concrete/asphalt, doors, and sheet rock. Basic repairs and maintenance to plumbing fixtures in County facilities including parks, splash pad, septic systems, and irrigation system, unstops drains, installs valves, and repairs leaks to toilet and kitchen plumbing fixtures. Assists other department employees with more complex building upkeep and repair. Participates in inclement weather and emergency operations. May pull trailer, and/or transport work release inmates; supervise community service workers; and provide guidance or direction to part-time or seasonal employees. Attends training including safety topics, CPR, and first aid. Additional Job Duties Performs related duties as required. Typical Qualifications Graduation from high school and some experience in grounds and building maintenance work and the operation of motorized equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid driver's license. Preference: Experience in skilled trades work NC Certified Public Pesticide Application Supplemental Information Must be able to physically perform the basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, crawling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess visual acuity to operate and maintain machines and equipment such as mowers, trucks, drills, and power saws, to perform maintenance and repair tasks, and to keep and maintain various records. Health We offer a high-deductible health plan with a $3000 deductible (Single). This program includes a Health Savings Account (HSA). Employee only coverage is completely funded by the County, PLUS the County contributes $1000 to the HSA annually. Dental Our dental plan provides for preventive services, such as cleanings each year, at 100%. There is a $25 deductible for other services. Basic services pays at 80% and other major services at 50%. The County contributes $14.47 per month for employee coverage. Voluntary Plans Employees may choose from a variety of plans arranged through Mark III Benefits. These include AFLAC Accident, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity plans; Allstate Cancer; Texas Life Whole Life; and Superior Vision plans. In addition we offer Short-term and Long-term disability. Life Insurance The County provides $10,000 Basic Life insurance for employees. An employee may choose to purchase additional voluntary term life insurance. Retirement Pension is offered through the N.C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Employees are required to contribute 6% of gross wages toward their account. The County also % (law enforcement 8.25%). 401(k) and 457 are supplemental retirement plans administered by Empower. For the 401(k) plan, employees contributing a minimum of 1% are eligible for the County contribution of 2.5% toward their account. Employees contributing at least 3% or greater are eligible for a County Contribution of 3%. Law Enforcement Officers receive a 5% County contribution. The 401(k) plan offers both pre-tax and Roth after-tax contributions. The 457 plan is tax-deferred with no minimum contribution requirements.
