Position Type: Teacher/PPS/Tch - Travel&Tour/Intro to Occ Date Posted: 12/17/2024 Location: Gerald R Claps Career & Tech - CED Date Available: 09/01/2025 Closing Date: 02/01/2025 DESCRIPTION: The Nassau BOCES Department of Regional Schools and Instructional Programs is seeking a Hospitality and Tourism teacher to teach units of study in both Hospitality and Tourism. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in one of the most dynamic, state-of-the-art facilities in Nassau County. Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to: Teach both first and second year-levels of the program. Teach a diverse group of 11th and 12th grade students using different modalities of learning including classroom instruction, project-based learning and hands-on skills to be college and career ready for a variety of professions such as hotel management, receptionist, food and beverage operations, guest services, lodging operations, hotel purchasing, marketing and sales, and travel agent. Prepare lessons that include the practical application of skills taught in the classroom and student internships during the year. REQUIREMENTS: New York State Education Department Certification: Transitional A, Initial or Professional in Hospitality and Tourism 7-12. Verified 2-4 years of experience of in-depth, comprehensive and appropriate work experience in the hospitality or tourism industry. Experience may include, but is not limited to that of hotel manager, travel and tourism agent, or other leisure industry professional including concierge, events planner, or others working in supervisory roles to operate or conduct events at a lodging, theme park, restaurant, or other hospitality service-related business, enterprise, or attraction used for recreational events, and/or entertainment and travel-related service. Prior teaching experience or experience working with the secondary student population is preferred.
