Job Posting End Date Please note the job posting will close on the day before the posting end date Job Summary Seeking a Civil Engineer with 8 or more years of civil site engineering experience and leadership skills that are searching for an opportunity to join the Civil / Geotechnical Engineering (CGE) group at American Electric Power (AEP). This position offers unique career development opportunities and challenging assignments across AEP's 11-state footprint performing civil site engineering, land development, stormwater management design, and roadway design assignments for Electric Substation, Transmission Line, and Telecommunications projects. The primary location of this posting is in New Albany, OH This position is classified as "Hybrid". Hybrid employees have some, but not all, work tasks that are required to be performed from an on-site AEP location. As a hybrid employee, you will be required to report to the office three days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The remainder of the week should be worked from home unless there is a field assignment or otherwise directed. Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Technical Expertise: Exhibits advanced level proficiency plus advanced knowledge of a specialized technical area that enables the engineer to serve as a resource for the company in an area such as system production, underground systems, extensive control systems, thermo-hydraulic control systems, distribution standards, fossil, or nuclear plant operations, etc. 2. Leadership & Guidance: Influences the direction of thinking throughout the organizational unit as a recognized authority in an area of expertise. Leads, facilitates, and coordinates work activities of others within work group, team, department, corporate entity, or those external to the company and assumes the role of project or function manager for assigned tasks. 3. Planning & Organization Ability: Develops, recommends, and implements plans that include all scheduling, resource, and cost information and control required to address complex engineering problems that require the input and efforts of a wide array of entities both internal and external to the company. 4. Problem Solving & Initiative: Identifies, clarifies, resolves, and initiates solutions to complex problems that require multi-functional, or organizational, interfacing and/or multi-disciplined analytical techniques. Develops opportunities and new ideas and approaches that have system-wide impact. 5. Communication: Leads in the preparation and presentation of complex technical subjects, clearly, concisely, and persuasively, bringing in ancillary issues before senior management, professional organizations, regulatory bodies, etc. Projects credibility and competence on technical issues and has highly developed presentation skills. 6. Interpersonal Skills: Builds teams and networks that extend through AEP, and other companies, professional organizations, regulatory agencies, and academia. Networks throughout AEP, other companies, professional organizations, and regulatory agencies. 7. Decision Making: Possesses the experience and knowledge to make some technical decisions based on calculated risks without management review. Makes decisions affecting long range plans and goals based on analysis of highly uncertain input and outcomes. Visualizes long-term results. Makes decisions where differences of opinion are likely to exist. Makes decisions that have an impact across organizational boundaries. 8. Business Awareness & Characteristics: Demonstrates vision in identifying business opportunities for the organizational unit. Understands how strategies and decisions impact the relationship with our customers and suppliers. Qualified candidates shall possess knowledge of civil site engineering principles through education and/or demonstrated project experience related to: • site grading • stormwater management • drainage design/analysis • roadway design • retaining walls • erosion and sediment control • permitting • surveying Knowledge and/or experience using AutoCAD and Civil3D software is strongly preferred. Successful candidates will possess the proven ability to assess and recommend best case civil engineering solutions and collaborate with higher level non-civil engineers and other project stakeholders in solving civil engineering related challenges in consideration of safety, performance, cost, constructability, risk, and liability. Travel (~10%) is required for this position and will consist of trips to the field to diagnose civil engineering issues related to electric transmission lines and substations. Field assignments are generally within a 5-hour driving distance of the assigned office location. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day. Some OT may be required, as approved. Minimum Requirements: Engineer Principal : Has typically acquired 8 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or 6 years of related engineering experience along with a master's or PhD in Civil Engineering from a program accredited by ABET*. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is required for this position unless approval to waive this requirement is given by the organization's EVP. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a bachelor's degree in civil engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a bachelor's degree in civil engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in Civil Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program. *ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. _ Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards._** Compensation Data Compensation Grade: SP20-009 Compensation Range: $110,656.00-143,853.50 USD Hear about it first!
