Job Description The People Relations Compliance Specialist role is essential for ensuring adherence to regulations, best practices, and employment laws primarily in California, with responsibilities extending to other US states and Canada as needed. We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented People Relations Compliance Specialist to join our People Relations Team. This is a hybrid role reports to the People Relations Compliance Manager and is based in our New Jersey Support Office. A Day in the Life Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the following responsibilities* California Compliance Auditing: Conduct regular audits of timekeeping and payroll practices to ensure compliance with California labor laws, including but not limited to meal and rest breaks, final pay calculations, predictive scheduling, and related topics. Develop and implement a comprehensive Compliance Audit Program schedule to assess compliance across all California retail locations. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Compliance Audit Program to ensure key performance indicators are achieved and compliance risks are proactively identified. Contribute to and support comprehensive risk assessments and provide recommendations. General Compliance Auditing: Periodically audit and assess compliance with labor laws in other states, ensuring adherence to state-specific regulations. Collaborate with key partners including the Sales Market Team and Legal Departments to understand local labor laws and develop tailored compliance strategies. Policy Development: Assist the People Relations Manager and Compliance Manager in developing, revising, and communicating policies related to employment practices across all states. Ensure policies are clearly documented, accessible, and consistently applied across all locations. Training and Education: Support the development and delivery of training programs for management and staff on compliance requirements. Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor compliance metrics and prepare regular reports for the People Relations Compliance Manager, highlighting areas of concern and progress towards compliance goals in both California and other states. Support the collection and analysis of compliance-related data. Validate the effective implementation of compliance action plans from internal departments to ensure alignment and application. Conduct regular audits in HRIS to ensure accuracy in termination entries, and collaborate with the HRIS team on improvements based on audit results. Issue Resolution: Provide support to HR partners and legal counsel in the event of disputes and/or compliance-related requests. Continuous Improvement: Stay current on labor laws across all states and industry best practices. Contribute to fostering a culture of compliance and accountability within the organization. Qualifications Who You Are Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Law, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience in compliance/auditing, HR, preferably in a retail or multi-location environment. Knowledge of California labor laws, as well as a general understanding of labor laws in other states. Strong analytical skills and experience conducting audits and assessments. Experience working with HRIS Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
