How will you make an impact? The Airline Risk Management team within the Global Merchant & Network Services Risk Management organization manages American Express acquirer exposure to the global airline industry. The team is tasked with monitoring airline credit profiles, identifying high risk airlines, and taking action to mitigate exposure and protect American Express from potential losses. We are currently seeking a Senior Manager based in New York to manage the Americas airline portfolio comprised of over 100 airlines and work closely with the various senior leaders in Amex Business, Risk and General Counsel teams in Europe, Asia, and Middle East in addition to working directly with the Airline Risk management Director and VP. Job Responsibilities: Directly manage a portfolio of over 100 airlines Closely monitor exposure by airline and ensure exposure accuracy in our MIS Prioritize airlines for commercial rating and underwriting Liaise with client management organization to secure financial information in a timely manner. Timely contract negotiations, ensuring appropriate Airline Risk language and reasonable. Monitor airline industry news, research, and trends closely. Collaborate with Amex Merchant business leaders and risk partners to enhance relationships in the industry. Partner with MA (new Merchant Acquisitions) to flexibly acquire new airlines and follow policy. Monitor financial performance and return on equity by airline along with set contractual covenants. Manage credit and fraud losses in line within expectations and with strong focus on selective mitigation actions for weaker airlines to avoid losses and write offs. Minimum Qualifications: Strong leadership, alignment, and assertiveness An internal and external relationship builder Strong business acumen, highly organized and structured Driven and curious with a high sense of urgency Detailed knowledge of industry trends, financial performance and competitive dynamics Familiarity with bankruptcy regulation Prior airline experience, airline consulting or airline investment banking Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills Strong presentation and financial modelling experience Second language fluency a plus Strong analytical and technical skills, including: Python/MLS, Cornerstone SQL, Lumi programming or willingness to learn. Able to learn, support and maintain the various Sisense/Lumi Dashboards for Airline Risk Management team. Preferred Qualifications: MBA or Master's degree preferred and/or tenured experience in Risk management Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursuevisa sponsorship for this position.
