Performs as Leader and carries out assignments requiring mastery of subject matter, with extensive experience associated with planning distribution lines, renewable energy resources, and distribution substation facilities in an electric power system. Responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing and directing the work performed by other Engineers and staff. Exhibits strong technical skills on the design of the electric power system. Represents the company regarding matters in distribution planning at the state public utility commissions and various state and regional entities. Responsible for ensuring that the Eversource transmission and distribution systems are designed to high quality standards that provide customers with safe, reliable, competitively priced and environmentally sound electric service. This position shares accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization's Life Cycle Plan, a comprehensive long-term plan for the transmission/distribution system. This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office. System Planning has the task of making sure that Eversource's future bulk power system serves our customers safely and reliably and meets applicable reliability National and local State Interconnection Standards. The group must look ahead between 1 and 10 years into the future to determine what upgrades are needed in order for the transmission and distribution system to comply with the local State regulatory requirements as well as complying with National and Regional Standards. Essential Functions: Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and conducts performance reviews. Assigns, prioritizes, and directs work performed by engineers. Develop medium (10 year) and long (20+ year) range distribution plans involving load relief, capacity, reliability related issues, and large DER integration. Leads or conducts forecast studies to determine loads used in distribution planning activities. Identifies distribution system problems involving multiple feeders and substations, leads and conducts scenario-based planning studies, evaluates alternatives, and recommends appropriate solutions to ensure a reliable distribution system. Prepare contingency studies for distribution networks including N-1 and N-2 analysis. Propose new distribution substation and associated OH and UG feeders. Effective communication, support and implementation with distribution customers pertaining to proposed facilities. Recommends project priorities for the capital construction program financial review. Collaborates with internal customers, external customers, regulators, and other engineers within Engineering. Presents recommendations and/or results to all levels of management as appropriate. Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations. Represents the department and the company on various committees. Recommends the development and/or changes as appropriate of criteria and standards for distribution planning. Prepares project related documentation and/or testimony to support regulatory filings. Assumes the role of the Manager as required. Expected to assist with storm duty and any other major events. Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications: Technical Knowledge/Skill: Working knowledge of the use of complex computer simulation techniques used in distribution planning. Knowledge of new technologies including but not limited to photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and battery storage. Knowledge of the techniques for planning the expansion of distribution lines and distribution substation facilities. Advanced knowledge of electrical theory as applied to planning an electric power supply system. Knowledge of distribution line design, substation design, and operating practices. Knowledge of National, State and other planning standards. Good written and oral communication skills, including formal presentation. Effective interpersonal skills, ability to develop strategic partnerships. Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering required. Master's degree in engineering preferred. Experience: Minimum of eight (8) t ten (10) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry. Supervisory experience preferred. Licenses & Certifications: None Compensation and Benefits: Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. Working Conditions: Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required. Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary. Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs are involved. Job can require traveling to operating districts and companies within and outside the state. Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver's license is required. Problem Solving & Complexity: Work includes calculating, comparing, technical writing, editing, planning, evaluating, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, designing, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing and presenting.
