Job Summary:Under the general direction of the Director of Client Services and in concert with the RSD Administration, the Operations Manager shall organize, oversee, control and direct the activities of a student transportation management location, ensuring that the operations are safe, efficient and meet the needs of the customer(s), employees, and corporation. This classification is the most senior position at the JOB FUNCTIONS:GeneralOversee the daily management and execution of student transportation and servicesProvide direction and supervise the work of all employees assigned to the Transportation DepartmentOversight of all routing assignmentsEnsure familiarity with the geographical area to report and respond quickly to emergency situations and to minimize extended operational situations that would impact the service quality of routes to students and parentsInteract daily department stakeholdersReport regularly to school leadership on the performance of the operation, particularly when challenges or issues are impacting the operation, and develop a response plan in coordination with school and Company leadership to appropriately address issues as they ariseMonitor on-time performance daily and respond to on-time performance concerns in a timely mannerProactively communicate delays and other pertinent information as neededDevelop modern, streamlined, and appropriate procedures as necessary to increase the safety and efficiency of district-wide transportation servicesWork within routing software and TransPar software to execute routes and triage customer service itemsConduct contractor audits through TransPars CPMP programMake every effort to ensure contractor(s') successServes as a liaison officer between the school and general public in matters of pupil transportationObserve weather conditions and make recommendations concerning safe operation of buses during inclement weatherCommunicate route assignments, emergency situations, accidents, breakdowns or any other event that will disrupt service to students, parents and campusesRespond to 2-way radio calls from bus operators and other transportation staff, if/as neededPerform general clerical tasks (i.e. typing, emailing, filing, mail sorting and distributing and duplicating)Support the school's emergency response network when a problem within the system arisesESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Must develop a positive, respectful, and embracing culture within the organizationDemonstrate well-developed communication skills both verbal and written, necessary to interact in a professional manner and to project a positive image that is consistent with school/Company philosophyAbility to possess a calm demeanor when interacting with agitated or upset students, parents, school personnel, community members, motorists, etc.Respect for student, teachers, parents, and support staffPossess the ability to work efficiently and patiently under pressure and stressful conditionsPossess the ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide timely solutionsStrong time management skills and ability to multi-task, prioritize work and give exceptional attention to detailStrong leadership skillsBASIC REQUIREMENTS:Associate's/Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in business or management; previous experience in a related field may be substituted for college degree at the discretion of TransParPossess organization, communication and interpersonal skills necessary to answer general inquiries and interact with coworkers, customers, and the publicPossess strong computer, math, language and grammar skills in order compose or update various correspondence and/or office reports as requiredPossess the ability to work efficiently and patiently under pressure and stressful conditionsStrong background/knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookExperience in working in MS Excel, developing spreadsheets, etc.Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and database software products or school bus routing software is also helpfulExperience in school transportation, vehicle maintenance or other related area of transportationExcellent work habits, attendance record and must successfully complete and pass all criminal history and child abuse clearancesConfidential, trustworthy, self-motivated, attentive to details and have the ability to work efficiently and patiently under pressure and stressful conditionsShall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment with the CompanyWORK ENVIRONMENT:Work environments include indoor and outdoor locations, including but not limited to the Transportation Office, bus lots and garages, school campuses, accidents sites, vendor locations, etc.Regular contact with individuals such as school administrators, parents, business officials, service providers, etc.While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand, reach, bend, stoop, crouch, squat and kneel.
