Job Description Position Title: Part-Time Program Coordinator Department: Parks & Recreation Starting Rate: $18.00 per hour Dauphin County Parks & Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Program Coordinator . The objective of the employee in this role is to direct and administer effective programs associated with Dauphin County Parks & Recreation Department. These activities are to be undertaken in cooperation with the Parks and Recreation Department Staff, the Friends of Fort Hunter, the Board of Trustees of Fort Hunter, as well as other community organizations. The employee in this role is also responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions listed below: Essential Functions of the Job: Plans and oversees programs for the public on-site and in the region. Develops volunteer resources to strengthen programming for Dauphin County Parks & Recreation. Undertakes research in the planning of programs. Assists in the organizing of materials for the appropriate marketing and promoting of programs. Coordinates with the Assistant Program Manager in the scheduling of programs. Cooperates with the Maintenance Department in the appropriate setup and teardown for programs. Answers inquiries via mail/phone/fax/email and talks with visitors; addresses public and civic organizations on availability of facilities and serves as an office backup in answering the door. Works a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings as necessary. Some remote work is also available. Performs all other duties as assigned. Other Job Duties: Attends meetings or training sessions as required. Sets up and cleans program spaces. Operates Parks & Recreating equipment and vehicles as needed to perform job duties. Performs other job-related duties as required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives instructions and supervision from the Program Manager and mild supervision from the Assistant Program Manager. SUPERVISION GIVEN: Supervises volunteers for events. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors in adequate workspace and lighting but with fluctuations in temperatures. Works outdoors in seasonal weather conditions and exposure to outdoor dust/dirt, odors, gases and chemicals. Occasional higher than normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt in old buildings. Subject to call-in when problems arise or as needed. Works in conditions of potential outbursts or disruptive behavior of general public with potential for personal physical harm. PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS: Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions. Must be able to sit/stand/walk intermittently for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional periods of bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and driving as needed to perform essential job duties. Medium work with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of twenty pounds. Must be able to physically and mentally react in the event of a disturbance or physical outbreak. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work. Minimum Education, Experience, and Training Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: At least an associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Communications, Recreation Management, and/or Tourism Management or related coursework. WORK EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience at a similar institution. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential functions of job. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills. Must possess initiative and strong problem-solving skills. Must possess the ability to function independently, have flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with coworkers, staff, and volunteers. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and a willingness to travel as needed to carry out essential job duties. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess knowledge of local and regional community-based organizations. Must possess the ability to maintain required records and prepare reports as needed. Must possess the ability to plan and direct complex programs, while addressing issues regarding safety, budgeting, visitor services, and marketing. Must possess an awareness of the need for the preservation of the site and its collections while planning programs.
