SUMMARY The Optimization Specialist is responsible for implementing advanced strategies within building control systems, ensuring alignment with customer business objectives. They commission Building Automation Systems using Analytics, perform virtual inspections to monitor operations, and track findings for the local sales office. Additionally, they assist in identifying and pricing potential projects, contribute to Performance IQ Reports, and support the onboarding of new customers by establishing reliable connections and verifying equipment. The Optimization Specialist will need a strong understanding of building automation systems, energy-related optimization, and factors affecting temperature and humidity in buildings. Additionally, the Optimization Specialist should possess a solid understanding of mechanical systems such as boilers, chillers, and Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems, and how they impact energy use and occupant comfort. The Optimization Specialist will be focused on TCS/DYNAMIQ buildings/projects i.e., ensuring virtual inspections are completed and all underperforming equipment is identified and triaged. During these virtual inspections a DYNAMIQ Tasking list will be created so the technician will have an action items list to help him complete the PM's. The Optimization Specialist will also be responsible for the completion of items identified by the DYNAMIQ Energy and Controls Engineer as well as assisting with the identification of potential projects, pricing for the projects, and language for the Performance IQ Reports. The Optimization Specialist will also assist in onboarding "new" DYNAMIQ customers as required assisting with getting a reliable connection established (Tosi Box), equipment verification and support meetings as required. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES Qualifications Good understanding and technical knowledge of building automation systems (including Tridium Niagara, Trane Tracer, JCI Metasys) Familiarity with common communication protocols (BACnet, Lon, and Trane Comm5) Ability to startup and commission controls systems and projects Knowledge of computer networking systems A minimum of three (3) years related work experience required in the building automation/controls and/or installation of mechanical HVAC equipment Good understanding of mechanical systems including boilers, chillers and VAVs. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues. Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED Accredited Professional, or similar is a plus. Experience with advanced energy management systems such as Building Logix, Clockworks or other building analytics packages is a plus. General Qualifications Excellent written and verbal communications skills Self-starter, ability to be both an individual contributor as well as a mentor of entry level employees Good understanding and technical knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems Organizational skills including, but not limited to, the ability to handle multiple demands and assignments, the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and efficiently, and the ability to manage resource procurement and utilization Good knowledge in Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to, Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, Project Excellent customer service skills Advanced verbal and written communication skills including, but not limited to, listening effectively, and soliciting input from others Knowledge of industry codes and standards: ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA, UL, etc. Knowledge of electrical safety standards and practices Responsibilities Implementation of quality building automation control practices while providing engineering/technical oversight for projects Specific responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to work as described below Implement the Initial Tuning programming changes identified while onboarding for DYNAMIQ - G. Optimization of DYNAMIQ - G Customers buildings based on the customers objectives (reduced energy waste, Indoor conditions, equipment uptime, etc.) Assists with all TCS/DYNAMIQ locations with technical needs until local offices staffing can operate self-sufficiently. Remotely assist technicians as added support and mentorship throughout the company. Attend monthly DYNAMIQ & Operations meeting to help assist with the flow for completing ongoing tasks Conduct or assist with Virtual Inspections per contract to help identify new tasks and help identify a process that can improve our maintenance for DYNAMIQ - G Customers. Manage and implement specialized controls changes and integrations. Document changes and ensure controls drawings are updated with new sequences for DYNAMIQ - G Customers. Meeting and reviewing changes with Design Engineers if necessary. Attending weekly meetings with Optimization Engineer to identify opportunities and track projects and changes within the Dynamiq opportunities portal. Attend meetings with the Studebaker controls division to develop processes and review any gaps within our teams. Programming software, hardware, and network configuration Lead efforts in commissioning/re-commissioning of BAS control systems for DYNAMIQ - G Customers. Ensure conformance to industry design standards. Provide status and progress reports to project team and management as required. Identify and develop necessary technical documentation to assist in streamlining the supervision and installation of Building Performance Projects for customers and participate in customer interaction. Provide technical training and support both internally and externally. Stay abreast of new development/releases of technology and apply to projects and processes as necessary. Assist clients and team members with Building Performance Projects and issues as needed. Prepare letters, memos, and other routine correspondence and documentation in accordance with established company procedures Develop (with assistance from the Director of Building Performance and the Optimization Engineer) a path forward to support Trane SC controls platforms. DYNAMIQ - G Startup Responsibilities Supporting ECM measures identified by DYNAMIQ Energy Engineer BAS Optimization BAS Design/Layout Remote connection/support Analytics integration Pricing assistance to salespeople/GMs Scope of work enhancements for salespeople to vendors Insure accountability of sub-contractors Punchlist/verification for project managers around building performance projects Survey controls systems at the customer's location. Understand prospect's needs and problems. Determine repair, modification and/or replacement requirements to provide prospects with solutions to problems. Interpret drawings, equipment, and job conditions. Build rapport and productive working relationships with customers, vendors, and other outside agents. Effectively represent the company's interests to outside agents to maximize profits. Participate, when appropriate, with operations in vendor selection, timely purchase, and delivery to assure prompt installation. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Building Science) or comparable experience in mechanical and controls commissioning. Tridium Niagara certification is preferred, good understanding of Building Automation Systems is a must WORKING CONDITIONS Generally, works out of an office setting with no known exposure to hazardous chemicals or abnormally dangerous conditions, works safely when outside of the normal office setting, and adheres to the safety measures of client sites, including using personal protective equipment, if required. The position requires the ability to: Drive to and from potential clients and existing client sites Stoop, reach, bend Walk throughout the customer's location including rooftops Climb ladders Use hands/fingers on a computer and controls systems including basic hand tools from time to time. Talk and hear as required for telephone usage. Moderate noise levels (examples: business offices with computers and printers, light traffic). Requires local travel using own vehicle and limited out-of-town travel as defined by client needs. The job may require some out-of-town travel for sales meetings, training opportunities and conferences.
