Job Summary The overall purpose of this position is to manage and enhance IEEE's cross-platform digital presence through user experience, accessibility, communications, compliance, and governance best practices and services. This includes governance and style guide management for IEEE's websites and digital strategy, technical management and maintenance of (the flagship website of IEEE), and overseeing technical solutioning and services for the Experience Design team as part of our marketing solution offerings. The incumbent should possess a passion for digital trends and innovation, combined with a sound understanding of user experience practices, consumer needs, social media and AI trends, brand impact online, and must be a technologically savvy leader who drives strategic solutioning to business challenges. The IEEE digital presence includes over 20,000+ websites and the website attracts more than 8 million visitors annually as well as directs traffic to other websites in IEEE's digital presence. The incumbent provides senior technical management oversight to web, solutions, and other related digital presence processes, functions and projects, ensuring services and opportunities for efficiencies and ongoing improvement. The incumbent is responsible for a positive digital user experience through the alignment of visual and interactive design, architecture and content quality to increase web accessibility; improved usability; improved SEO; increased operational efficiency; and increased conversions. The person in this role will lead a team of technical solutionists. This role typically works with stakeholders, SMEs, and vendors, offering consultative direction and guidance to drive compliance and gain consensus on enterprise initiatives. This position works with low supervision and manages up to 4 direct reports. Key Responsibilities Digital Governance & Technical Solutioning: Collaborates with other IEEE staff to identify and implement digital solutions to improve operations, establish internal website governance, implement policies and guidelines and follow best practices. Works on digital experience focused projects related to accessibility, AI, web centric industry trends in the context of ExD operations and impact to the digital governance for and overall digital presence. Provides strategic direction for the IEEE digital strategy and ensures a best-in-class digital web presence and platform of information, digital tools, and interfaces across IEEE. Drives compliance and governance through the IEEE Digital Style Guide for web best practices and consistency in tone, brand compliance, and accessibility related to and the digital presence overall. Drives adoption of and evangelizes digital best practices, including user experience principles, accessibility standards, browser and device capability, CMS, domains, and maintenance of governance guidelines and testing across multiple devices to inform IEEE Digital Style Guide updates as well as creation of new resources to align with business and marketing goals. Oversees domain management and governance efforts (including enterprise domain database upgrade, etc.). Oversees development of enterprise marketing governance solutions for image repository, etc. Drives growth of website service model to support staff and volunteer website needs. Collaborates with team members, vendors, contractors, staff and volunteer partners develop and evolve ideas to support brand goals and marketing objectives. Oversees and performs prospect and customer journey analysis to drive engagement, improve visitor interactions, and optimize performance of web properties that are part of existing eco systems for various IEEE entities. Facilitates resource sharing and reuse throughout the IEEE including the creation and promotion of new tools and templates for webmasters and marketing staff and volunteers. Collaborates with Director, Experience Design and business and IT stakeholders to contribute to co-lead the ideation, creation, presentation and implementation of the evolving strategic digital roadmap. Collaborates with Director, Experience Design and business and IT stakeholders to drive governance on cookie consent, CMS governance, and other such enterprise efforts. Helps identify and implement process improvements to create efficiencies for digital presence production, governance, and management workflows. Leads digital asset management solutioning for enterprise and use (ex: enterprise image repository efforts) Other responsibilities: Manages a team of up to 4 direct reports with focused responsibility on user experience, technical solutioning, governance, accessibility, form design, and digital compliance management. Evaluates tools/applications and recommends those that best fit within the context of IEEE ecosystem. Works with team to communicate team activities and objectives to staff and volunteer audiences; plans and manages efforts to maintain adequate visibility, understanding, focus and resource allocation for Experience Design team efforts. Collaborates with other Experience Design team staff to help solution for team's technical needs (Smartsheet, forms, etc.), managing workflows that impact sub-teams, and working on projects with shared responsibilities. Works with stakeholders and digital team to clarify project requirements and expectations or to offer mediation, conflict resolution and escalation when necessary. Manages vendor relations as needed to advance the goals of the Experience Design team. Interactions will require the ability to negotiate and persuade in order to gain support for achieving strategic goals. Supports Director, Experience Design in annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and financial reporting for assigned activities and programs. Takes risk management and mitigation measures into account as part of operational activity. Ensures planned activities are in compliance with IEEE digital, legal, and brand policies and guidelines. Supports website projects and their development, including the development and implementation of any new or existing website areas. Oversees rollout and maintenance of new and existing tools for digital and marketing use. Interpersonal, work process, and workload problems may need to be identified, analyzed, documented and/or resolved. Oversee technical project scope and requirements, liaising with IT and other OU staff on projects related to campaign management and automation, analytics, etc. technical solutioning management: Planning, implementing and ensuring information architecture for sites/pages/program areas. Recommends improvements when needed. Drives website management, planning, and technical infrastructure in coordination with Digital Governance & Communications Manager. Serve as a liaison and primary point of contact for cross functional partners acting as a project manager to evaluate, prioritize, develop, manage, implement and test initiatives. Oversees posting of promotions and urgent messaging on . Develops relationships with web developers, content editors, technical personnel within and outside ExD, and IT business partners to manage the business needs and user experience of through enhancements, site releases, and issue resolution. Formulates goals and strategies for content presentation and optimization through stakeholder collaboration. Drives the release schedule and ensures timely technical delivery and updates to the website. Utilizes website, SEO, and social media analytics data to make informed decisions on user experience in coordination with necessary staff and vendors. Manages development and documentation of site governance and policy to ensure optimal user experience and governance. Troubleshoots and resolves issues/errors for external and internal customers; escalating to appropriate technical or management staff when needed. Ensures continuous accuracy and consistency of informational content on in line with IEEE business, marketing, and industry best practices. Oversees SLAs and issue resolution for items pertaining to the website or other sites that fall under Experience Design purview (Ex: Brand Experience, etc.) Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, web design, software engineering, project management, or another related field. Req Master's or other advanced degree in computer science, web design, software engineering, project management, or another related field. Pref Work Experience 7-10 years work experience in web/internet development, information technology, human computer interaction or another web production related field. Req Licenses and Certifications Project or product management certification is required. Req Desire for additional certification or training. Pref Skills and Requirements High proficiency in managing complex cross-functional initiatives with excellent organizational skills and great attention to detail. High proficiency in personal, project, and time management; ability to manage multiple, diverse projects simultaneously in complex environments; ability to multi-task multiple priorities and projects, and prioritize projects as needed. High proficiency with enterprise web content management solutions such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), WordPress, etc. and front-end markup languages such as Dreamweaver, HTML/XHTML, CSS. Strongly advocate for the user during all phases of the website design and development process keeping in mind user experience and accessibility principles to drive deliverables. Excellent managerial, teamwork, interpersonal, and communications skills including written and oral communications skills. Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to present effectively to large, cross-functional audiences. Supervisory and/or team project management experience is preferred. Demonstrated experience managing website projects, application development, or working in a web, content, or editorial production environment. Understanding of web content strategy and practice, website information architecture, web content publishing, user experience and user journeys, and accessibility. Demonstrated experience managing direct reports, agency relationships, and vendors. Strong detail orientation, attention to accuracy, and consistency. Strong personal project and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple, diverse projects simultaneously in complex environments. Strong critical-thinking, oral, and written communication skills. Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing needs, processes, and environments. Must have ability to interpret stakeholder requirements and project plans. Good interpersonal skills are essential. Must be able to work with IEEE staff and volunteers at all levels to provide information, gain consensus, and meet defined objectives. Good understanding of the web development process with experience developing user-centered applications or web sites. Familiarity with customizing WordPress themes, using/updating plugins, and site architecture development experience is a plus. Familiarity with form handlers such as Wufoo, Marketo forms, Adobe, and/or Google Forms is a plus. Ability to learn/adapt to new web technologies and CMS solutions as needed and cascade learning and advice to others as needed. Ability to work with SmartSheet, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office applications, Google Workspace applications, and video conferencing tools is required. Ability to work in a hybrid environment off-site/remotely with proficiency and efficiency when required. Previous experience enforcing a style guide and driving compliance is a plus.
