Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Custodian Date Posted: 11/6/2024 Location: District-Wide Date Available: 11/21/2024 Closing Date: 11/16/2024 SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIANS Districtwide SCHOOL YEAR Title: Six (6) Daytime Substitute Custodians Description: To provide those services needed to maintain a clean and sanitary school building, to perform minor equipment maintenance and service tasks and to assist with the upkeep of the building's surrounding grounds during the day. Job Summary: Move and arrange furniture/equipment for meetings and special events. Perform minor repairs. Perform heavy physical labor. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions/directions. Maintain routine records such as work orders, equipment repairs and maintenance, chemical application, irrigation schedules, and overtime assignments. Meet schedules and timelines. Operate a variety of custodial equipment including a floor buffer, carpet/vacuum cleaner, etc. Operate a variety of power hand tools and light motorized equipment including tractors, power mowers, and weed eaters. Performs general grounds maintenance work including watering and mowing lawns. Blows and sweeps sidewalks, parking lots, tennis court, and other assigned areas. Maintains athletic fields and prepares them for events. Operates and maintains mowers, sweepers, and other equipment used in the care of grounds. May drive a school vehicle for other tasks as needed and as assigned. Inspect the tractor and mower for safe and proper operation. Travel to other sites to maintain grounds. Monitor campus for necessary grounds maintenance work to assure safety, resolve problems or notify others as appropriate. Maintain routine records of work orders, equipment repair and maintenance, and chemical applications. Repair sprinkler and irrigation pipes. Respond to emergency calls outside of normal work hours. Perform specialized grounds keeping in the care and maintenance of District and site grounds. Utilize independent judgment in performing grounds maintenance and activities. Mow, edge, water, weed, fertilize, and cultivate lawns, flowerbeds, athletic fields, and other landscaped areas. Mix and apply chemicals to control and eradicate weeds, insects, and other pests. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English. Possess a valid driver's license with no serious violations. Demonstrate a minimum of three (3) years of previous custodial and/or groundskeeper work-related experience. Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent training experience. Demonstrate integrity, good morals, character, and initiative. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community. Demonstrate aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities. Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status and required criminal background check. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally. Climbing ladders and working from heights as necessary. Indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures exceeding 90 degrees at times. Regular exposures to fumes, dust, dirt, oil/grease, odors, heights, and loud noises. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. Working on ladders and from heights. Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals such as disinfectants, graffiti remover, floor stripper, floor wax, propane, and paint thinner. Direct contact with the public, students, and other district staff. Working with or around machinery with moving parts. Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses. Exposure to heated/air-conditioned and ventilated facilities. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.
