SUMMER ASSOCIATE, Financial Engineer Overview of Financial Engineer opportunities: The Valuation Control manages the valuation of various investments ranging from the exchange traded products to derivatives traded in OTC markets, including equities, listed futures/options, bonds, fixed income OTC derivatives (interest rate swaps/swaptions, FX spot/forward/options), credit derivatives, commodity products and private equities. The team provides valuations and PnL for portfolio managers, the risk team, and senior management. Responsibilities As a Financial Engineer , you'll need to •Develop models/tools to ingest data from internal data sources or external data vendors for valuation, and review daily valuation results •Work with data and technology team to understand the workflow of internal systems, detect business inefficiencies and come up with technology solutions to resolve them •Develop and enhance automated tools to monitor and check daily PnL issues •Build and enhance reporting tools to improve the quality of daily PnL reporting •Develop other tools on an as-needed basis to support the growth of business of the firm Qualifications & Requirements Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in financial engineering, mathematical finance, computer science, data science, or a related quantitative field with a December 2025 or Spring 2026 graduation. •Outstanding programming skills: SQL, Python and Pandas is required •Strong analytical and problem-solving skills •Excellent communication skills •Strong personal ownership and ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams •Hardworking, resourceful, passionate, driven •Thorough and detail oriented •An understanding of financial instruments, especially OTC derivatives is preferred •Experience with Market data on data vendors like Bloomberg, MarkIt; API knowledge is a plus •Experience with web development tools, like Plotly Dash, or React is a plus Balyasny Asset Management L.P.
