Senior Electrical Engineer with Software/Firmware experience Classification Exempt Reports to Engineering Manager Date 11/21/2024 JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective Black Diamond Advanced Technology (BDAT) is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with Software/Firmware experience with expertise in both electrical and software engineering. This unique position will be responsible for designing, building, testing, and supporting rugged electronics with integrated software solutions, primarily for industrial and military applications. The role focuses on end-to-end product development, including hardware/software integration, testing, and ongoing support. Hardware Engineering Functions: • Develop and derive electrical and system requirements • Design and test high-speed interfaces (e.g., USB 3.0, SATA, I2C), power supplies, and EMI solutions • Create circuit schematics, supervise PCB layout, and conduct thorough design reviews • Develop and document electrical test plans at both circuit and assembly levels • Support engineering builds, manufacturing, and failure analysis • Conduct testing using industry-standard tools (oscilloscopes, DMMs, spectrum analyzers, etc.) Software Engineering Functions: • Review, provide feedback, and implement software and firmware requirements • Design, code, test, and deploy software across platforms, including embedded systems, Windows, Linux, and Android • Proficient in languages such as C#, C++, Java, and Kotlin; familiarity with RDBMS/SQL and networking protocols is a plus • Utilize version control (e.g., Git), bug tracking, and CI/CD tools (e.g., TeamCity, Gitlab) to manage development lifecycle • Develop software configuration management strategies and create user-facing documentation Integrated Hardware-Software Functions: • Collaborate on hardware/software integration through HW/SW ICDs and technical documentation • Work with cross-functional teams to transition designs to production • Develop, execute, and automate tests for integrated hardware-software solutions • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for both hardware and software components Desired Abilities: • Ability to develop and maintain multiple products with a mix of hardware, firmware, and software components • Willingness to jump into new technical areas, learn quickly, and deliver results • Strong communication skills for technical documentation, team collaboration, and customer support Supervisory Responsibility This position has supervisory responsibilities related to engineering design reviews and collaboration. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work • Full-time, 9/80 schedule (every other Friday is off) • Core hours are 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. • This is an on-site, 100% NON-Remote position Travel This position may require up to 10% travel.
