Director of Camp ABC The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit youth development organization, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. The Fund offers a safe, fun, engaging, and enriching experience for New York City youth to keep the magic of summer alive through virtual and outdoor programs. For more information, visit The Fresh Air Fund is seeking a dynamic youth development professional with prior camp experience for an exciting opportunity to work as the Director of one of our camps. Position Summary The Fresh Air Fund seeks a visionary Director for ABC Camp who is passionate about empowering girls ages eight to fourteen and fostering leadership in campers and staff alike. This position requires someone deeply committed to The Fresh Air Fund's mission and can create a supportive, growth-oriented environment that emphasizes inclusivity, resilience, and personal growth for underserved girls. As Director, you will lead innovative youth camp programming, support staff development, and create enriching experiences that build campers' confidence, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills. Key Responsibilities Drive the vision and execution of ABC Camp's programming, building a culture that fosters growth and belonging for campers and staff. Mentor camp staff in effective youth mentorship and professional growth, fostering empathy, conflict resolution, and positive camper engagement. Promote a camp culture centered on resilience, goal-setting, and continuous self-improvement through structured reflection and personal development opportunities. Work with other Fresh Air Fund directors to align program goals and contribute to strategic youth development initiatives across camps. Girls' Empowerment Development Design programs to build girls' self-esteem, self-discovery, and confidence through activities in advocacy, goal-setting, and exploring personal strengths. Integrate SEL-focused programming to help girls develop emotional intelligence, empathy, and resilience in all interactions. Provide structured leadership activities, enabling girls to make decisions, take on responsibilities, and learn teamwork. Offer workshops on body positivity, identity, and gender stereotypes and connect campers with role-model staff mentors. Cultivate a camp environment that prioritizes respect, kindness, and inclusion, ensuring girls feel safe to express themselves and grow authentically. Qualifications At least 3 years of supervisory experience in a camp or residential youth setting, with a strong background in diverse youth populations. Bachelor's degree in a related field (master's preferred), with a passion for youth empowerment and SEL. Background in girls' empowerment programming, emphasizing confidence and leadership development in young women. Strong organizational, operational, and multitasking skills in a dynamic environment focusing on strategic planning and team management. Effective interpersonal and public speaking skills for workshops and team collaboration. Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and a summer camp residency; valid driver's license required. Compensation: $20,000 summer salary (June-August), $25/hour up to 350 hours year-round (January-May, September-December) Benefits: None Application Instructions To apply, please submit an application and cover letter.
