Position Description Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned scientific research organization located on the North Shore of Long Island, is seeking an HVAC Mechanic. The HVAC Mechanic will install, repair, maintain, and operate heating, ventilation, air conditioning and other electromechanical equipment, equipment controls, and building management systems. Position Responsibilities Performs routine preventative and corrective maintenance to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems as well as pumps and energy management systems. Installs, and tests HVAC systems for laboratory, administrative, and residential buildings. Performs maintenance on air compressors, vacuum pumps, blowers, electromechanical control systems, and other mechanical systems. Interacts with other trades, scientific staff, and the Laboratory's administration on the performance of job duties. Orders necessary supplies and materials from approved vendors. Troubleshoots maintenance problems. Reclaims, recycles, and adds CFC and HCFC refrigerants to air conditioning and refrigeration systems in accordance with regulatory requirements. Position Requirements EDUCATION: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a refrigerant technician license preferred.EXPERIENCE: Must have five years experience in the areas of general mechanics and HVAC and equipment controls maintenance and repair.OTHER: Must have a valid driver's license and be able to read, write, and understand English.KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB:Strong computer skills are required. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex problems in various HVAC/R systems. Ability to read blueprints and complex wiring diagrams. Knowledge of BMS beyond the graphics level. Interacts with Laboratory staff in the performance of duties.
