Position Objective: This position will be responsible for managing, monitoring , and maintaining Grand Central Terminal's (GCT) various low & medium voltage electrical systems and equipment including but not limited to a fire alarm, lighting control, elevators, escalators, switchboards, transformers, and impulse-driven analog clocks. This role will also supervise and direct the agreement workforce in the implementation and maintenance of electrical systems to ensure installations are done correctly and according to all applicable safety and construction standards. Responsibilities: Assist Superintendent - GCT Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance and GCT Maintenance and Station & Facilities construction and electrical staff, as assigned, in all phases of construction & electrical work from in-house design through certificate of occupancy. Assist with project site inspections, to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety. Assist in managing service contracts for vertical transportation system . Conduct field surveys of existing electrical equipment with contractors and other maintenance personnel, coordinate electrical service shutdowns and provide technical guidance in facilitating electrical upgrades to ensure compliance with required specifications, codes , and MNR safety requirements. Responsible for producing electrical layouts, and one-line diagrams and modifying existing electrical drawings upon request using AutoCAD. Collaborate with other professionals, such as architects, mechanical engineers , and other MNR departments to ensure the integration of electrical systems. Contribute to work involving the maintenance of the building's electrical systems and develop technical reports, such as methods of procedure (MOP) /Scope of Work (SOP) for electrical equipment installation projects. Oversee project production efforts to ensure projects are completed safely, and efficiently and meet the required specifications . Identify and investigate chronic electrical asset concerns and assist in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of equipment failures. Produce electrical engineering calculations in support of electrical system designs including electrical equipment sizing, feeder sizing , and equipment selection. Develop equipment specifications, review construction drawings, and respond to all electrical-related Request for Information (RFI) documentation . Perform duties as assigned by Superintendent- GCT Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance, such as reviewing and modifying the operational programming for lighting control systems; updating and maintaining an electrical database using Structured Query Language (SQL); communicating technical information about building equipment; and manage maintenance contracts for fire alarm, escalators, and the master clock system. Required Qualifications: Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge and understanding of standard applicable building codes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Knowledge of standard safety programs, policies, and procedures. Ability to interact with all levels, and to foster teamwork. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and/or Access, or comparable software required. Ability to deal effectively with emergencies on a 24-hour-per-day basis. Experience in database creation using Structured Query Language (SQL). Proficient in AutoCAD. Familiarity with NEC and NFPA 72. Broad understanding of fire alarm system mechanics. Experience with fire alarm system maintenance and design review. Experience in developing, reading, and understanding electrical schematics. Experience working with vertical transportation monitoring system, Lift-Net. Knowledge of lighting control systems. Experience producing sizing calculations with minimal supervision. Attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Strong working knowledge of a broad range of electrical systems, including power system design, fire alarm design, fault analysis, grounding design , and equipment selection. Must possess strong interpersonal, speaking , and writing skills. Must be organized and detail-oriented . An understanding of industry operating practices and related regulations with the ability to stay current. Knowledge of NYS Building code requirements. The following is/are preferred: Professional Engineering (P.E.) License Thorough knowledge of Grand Central terminals' physical characteristics including exits, stairways, elevators, and escalators. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a focus in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Minimum five (5) years of experience in an Electrical design and construction role or completion of Metro-North Railroad Associate Engineer Program. Minimum three (3) years of experience managing professional staff/diverse workforce and/or projects. Other Information This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.
