The Underwriter (Hybrid) is responsible for writing auto, homeowner and umbrella risks. This individual will review applicant qualifications and determine level of risk based on company underwriting and rating standards and guidelines to ensure profitability. The Underwriter will also review endorsements, renewals, cancellations and claims. Responsibilities: Underwrite business according to company underwriting and rating guidelines, accept or modify transactions to ensure a profitable book of business and decline risks that do not fit our guidelines. Evaluate MVR's, A-plus reports, interviews and property inspections to determine acceptability of current or prospective business. Handle accounts with direct guidance from the Underwriter Specialist and/or Supervisor. Review claims files to determine desirability of risk and risk classification information Present decisions to agents clearly, being flexible within parameters of underwriting criteria. 4.5 million total-line authority with direct recommendation to management for higher limits including responsibility for all underwriting and communications. Work territory quotes and emails as assigned. Communicate the company underwriting strategy and interact with other departments as appropriate to support market objectives. Professionally handle incoming and outgoing customer phone calls. Maintain strong agency relationships. Other work as assigned. Requirements: High School Diploma Qualifications/Skills: Good computer skills. Good written and oral communication and customer service skills. Organizational, time management and prioritization skills. Good decision-making and analytical skills. Ability to work independently or on a team. Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization. Good Interpersonal skills. Ability to handle stress professionally and effectively.
