Job information: Functional title - Application Development Software Engineer Department - Technology Corporate level - Director Report to - Director, Application Development Software Engineer Location - New Jersey What you will be doing: You will play a key leadership role in the strategic delivery of critical enterprise solutions, leveraging a client-server architecture and leveraging middleware components and databases. You will oversee a team of development professionals and work closely with senior stakeholders to drive the design, development, and successful deployment of Java-based applications that meet business needs and scale for growth. Leadership & Team Development: Lead and mentor a high-performing team of application developers, providing strategic direction, fostering innovation, and ensuring the team's alignment with organizational goals. Promote a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and excellence in technical execution. Solution Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end application development lifecycle for critical services, ensuring the architecture and solutions are aligned with business requirements, performance goals, and scalability standards. Strategic Planning & Innovation: Partner with business leaders, product managers, and cross-functional teams to define application strategies that drive business outcomes. Identify and prioritize opportunities for innovation and technical improvements across the enterprise. Incident & Problem Management: Take a proactive leadership role in the resolution of production and UAT issues, ensuring timely and effective solutions. Oversee the root cause analysis and the implementation of long-term fixes to prevent recurrence. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with senior leadership, infrastructure teams, and other departments to gather requirements, define project scope, and ensure successful integration of solutions across the enterprise. Standards & Governance: Ensure the adoption of best practices in development, coding standards, and architectural principles. Establish and maintain governance frameworks for application development, including quality assurance, security, and compliance requirements. Risk Management & Mitigation: Lead the identification and management of technical risks, and drive initiatives to mitigate those risks. Provide strategic oversight to ensure project timelines, budgets, and resources are effectively managed. Technology Strategy & Trends: Stay ahead of emerging technologies, market trends, and industry best practices to guide the team and organization toward innovative solutions. Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies that enhance operational efficiency and maintain competitive advantage. Performance & Metrics: Establish performance metrics for the team, and ensure regular evaluations are conducted. Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leadership, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. What we're looking for: Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Experience: 10+ years of IT experience, with significant exposure to Core Java and a proven track record in successfully delivering complex software projects. Experience managing or overseeing teams and cross-functional initiatives. Technical Expertise: Broad experience with a diverse set of technologies, including SQL, Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, JPA, Junit, Mockito, Apache Spark, Storm, and other related technologies. Deep knowledge of software development practices, cloud platforms (PaaS, SaaS), and modern development frameworks. Cloud & Architecture Experience: Proven experience in designing and developing software products or solutions deployed in cloud environments, with a focus on scalable, reliable, and high-performing applications. Database & Security Knowledge: Strong understanding of complex database architectures and database design principles. Ability to guide teams in implementing robust database solutions. Practical experience in incorporating security, performance, and capacity (P&C) requirements into enterprise-level solutions. Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor cross-functional teams, providing strategic direction, fostering collaboration, and driving technical excellence in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Problem Solving & Innovation: Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical challenges. Ability to innovate and implement solutions that improve team efficiency, application performance, and scalability. Methodology & Process Expertise: In-depth understanding of SDLC methodologies, including Agile practices, and experience in managing the application development process from inception to delivery. Proven track record of managing complex projects with an eye toward continuous improvement. Project & Resource Management: Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives, manage resources, and deliver projects on time, within scope, and on budget.
