Overview Chemical Process Engineer - Piston Automotive is seeking a a highly motivated and detail-oriented Chemical Engineer to oversee all aspects of our chemical manufacturing processes and laboratory analysis for chemical process components. In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring the quality and efficiency of our chemical production, while also supporting the transition from R&D to large-scale manufacturing. The primary work-site will be one of our Detroit, MI plants, with occasional travel to our Corporate office in Redford, MI. Remote work options are not available for this role. Responsibilities Direct oversight and quality assurance of the chemical manufacturing processes and lab analysis of all chemical components used to manufacture chemical process components. Training and management of Lab Technicians in the chemical manufacturing processes and analysis lab Technical expert of all equipment, processes and products within the chemical manufacturing area and lab analysis, including the cleanroom and supporting infrastructure Support the transition of chemical process technology from R&D low volume manufacturing to large-scale manufacturing. All Process and Quality documentation within the chemical manufacturing processes and lab analysis Develop and optimize battery slurry formulations to enhance cell performance and cycle life Work with customer & internal teams to implement robust quality control procedures to ensure all chemical product produced meet strict quality requirements. Conducts assessments and audits of work practices, facilities, and equipment to ensure proper compliance to define procedures and requirements. Monitor and maintain the cleanroom environment, chemical mixing equipment, chemical manufacturing processes and the flammable chemical storage areas. Leads problem solving activities within the chemical manufacturing process and analysis lab Coordinates all repair and maintenance activities in chemical manufacturing processes with the appropriate support staff , ensuring proper validation processes are followed post repairs. Responsible for tracking and coordination of calibration for equipment and devices within the chemical manufacturing processes and chemical lab Work closely with customer to plan, coordinate, execute and validate all product or process changes. Monitor and analyze ongoing production and quality statistical data to ensure proper compliance to standards and requirements. Ensures all safety protocols are followed within the chemical manufacturing processes and lab analysis by preforming recurring process audits Manages chemical waste collection program including collection, vendors, and waste shipments. Contribute to the development of testing protocols and standards for chemical process technology. Work effectively with all cross-functional teams to support operational excellence across the manufacturing processes. Communicate complex technical information related to the chemical process to both internal and external stakeholders. Stay up to date on the latest advancements in chemical process technology and participate in knowledge sharing within the team. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or a related field (e.g., Materials Science). Master's in chemical Engineer or a related field strongly preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in chemical engineering, preferably with some experience in chemical process technology or related fields (electrochemistry, anode and cathode, catalysis). Proven experience in formulating and optimizing battery slurry compositions is essential for this role Production Chemical Manufacturing Experience Strong understanding of chemical properties, reactions, and thermodynamics. Strong experience with laboratory equipment and data analysis techniques. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
