Overview: Job Summary Performs various accounting and analytical duties related to state and local indirect tax compliance, providing senior level research support for various internal departments responsible for administering and collecting sales and use tax. Works collaboratively with team members assisting and reviewing work as necessary. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain extensive knowledge of ongoing state and local tax law changes and provide updates to internal departments on applicable laws. Actively monitor new proposed tax laws for impact on company processes. Recommend and implement changes necessary to comply with passed legislation. Reviews and prepares documents to comply with state and local sales and use tax reporting requirements, assisting with multi-state indirect tax filings. Review reconciliations of property, sales/use tax related liability accounts and review monthly journal entries. Provide support for state sales/use tax audits and other inquiries from taxing authorities. Assist in planning for and obtaining tax refunds related to government sponsored economic incentives. Work with departments to collaborate, innovate, and execute ideas for simplification and improvement of core processes. Support special projects as needed. Perform all job duties and responsibilities with honesty and integrity. Perform other duties as assigned or needed. Requirements Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a tax accounting role. Experience: At least four (4) years in a position applying extensive knowledge of state and local tax laws in a compliance environment. Experience preparing, analyzing and filing sales and use taxes and property taxes. Ability to conduct tax research and prepare a memorandum in a multi-state and multi-jurisdiction environment and provide tax research/findings to all management and customers. Demonstrate advanced analytical skills using Microsoft Excel Experience interpreting and analyzing statistical and financial information, applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail. Financial reporting and general ledger accounting experience. Ability to prioritize and perform a variety of simultaneous tasks (multi-tasking) in a high-pressure environment, demonstrating initiative, dependability and self-direction to complete projects within expected deadlines or defined time estimates. Excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills and ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with co-workers, supervisors, store personnel and vendors. Preferred Experience: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Masters degree or equivalent.
