Overview: The Senior Staff Accountant is an important member of the Accounting Department with responsibilities related to providing timely and accurate transaction processing and analyses for AHRC Nassau and its Affiliates, agencies including but not limited to Human Services/ IDD and Foundation entities. The Senior Accountant operates under the guidance of the Accounting Manager and must be a team player with good communication, analytical, computer skills and current with FASB non-profit pronouncements. These skills are required to effectively perform analyses and accounting work to support the financial statement close process. Responsibilities: Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: Accounting and Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare journal entries in accord with the monthly financial close calendar for all property management companies (HUD) and Other entities as required which includes but not limited the Fundraising organization. These duties include, but are not limited to: Record cash receipt journal entries and Other journal entries to the general ledger monthly. Reconcile asset and liability general ledger to related statements and schedules. Maintain audit work papers and provide Trial Balance, General Ledger, work papers and Provided By Client (PBC) materials to auditors. Coordinate with the Staff Accountant to update FASB Lease Accounting for all finance lease accounting including updating amortization schedules and recording journal entries. Investment Portfolio: Complete bookkeeping to record investment activity for multiple investment portfolios, including recording interest and dividend income, realized and unrealized market gains, purchases and sales. Employer Retirement Plans: Support the annual Retirement Plan audits including facilitating documentation submission to the auditors including coordinating with the Human Resources, Accounting and Payroll departments. Budgets: Assists in preparation of agency budget using financial statements, projected changes and staffing patterns. Support all US Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulatory reporting and budget submissions. Audits: Support the annual audit process by timely satisfying auditors sample request and other provide by client (PBC) item assigned by the Accounting Manager. Assist in the preparation of the annual Form 990s and its related schedule. Other responsibilities: Serve as back-up for other accountants positions as needed and determined by the Director of Accounting & Accounting Manager. Assist with long-term debt financing, including providing information, documents, and reports to bond underwriter/s, and support lender due diligence efforts. Special projects as required, including process optimization and system implementation. Qualifications: Education and/ or experience required: Bachelors Degree preferably in Accounting or Finance AND Three (3) years relevant work experience, preferably with a not-for-profit agency Considered a Plus: Familiarity or direct experience with real estate related accounting and/or financial record-keeping for a not-for-profit fundraising foundation.
