Job Summary: The Safety & Quality Manager [SQM] will work to assure a safe and healthy work environment for all company employees. The SQM is also responsible for the Day-to-day tasks and improvements needed to continually drive the quality culture and improvements necessary to provide a product that satisfies all requirements needed by our customers. Additionally, the SQM is responsible for coaching and training employees, developing corrective actions to proactively address areas of concern, and needed improvements. The SQM will work directly with the Plant Manager and Operations Manager to ensure adherence to established processes and procedures as well as any new initiatives. Essential Job Functions: Oversee GMP Certification process and Audit. Strictly adhere to GMP and safety requirements. Address key issues and concerns by interacting with employees from other departments to ensure the production of a quality product. Ensure Quality expectations are followed and met daily. Must possess problem solving/root cause analysis skills; leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate teams to exceed expectation; communication, planning and organization skills; sense of urgency and accountability; customer focus; ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environment. Facilitate meetings with other departments to ensure Quality and Continuous Improvements are a daily focus. Complete various quality parameters to evaluate new items. Be present at all critical item runs and be aware of the issue. Provide support for HACCP program. Review all customer complaints by personally reviewing at the machine with the specific machine operator and supervisor; obtain Root Cause and Corrective Action Inspect and observes all Top 10 Customer manufacturing runs. Collect data and ensure timely and accurate reports are prepared. Assist Design and Pre-press when new testing is required. Traceability & Recall Program Documentation and Record Keeping Allergen Awareness Management Program Corrective Action Program Ensure corrective/preventive actions are implemented for internal and external customer complaints Update and maintain Quality manual Update and maintain Quality SOP program Ensure policy and procedure compliance across all departments for SOPs Health and Safety Functions Work for Hearing Conservation and Schedule Audiometric Testing Investigate, Monitor, and Communicate Accident Investigation Findings Lead the Safety Committee and Track Progress of Work Orders Maintain and Monitor Plant Fire/Alarm System Functions Perform Fire Pump tests Monitor and Respond to Panel Alarms Schedule Inspections and Repairs Perform Monthly Guarding Report Conduct and Communicate Job Hazard Analysis Perform Plant Safety Compliance Audits Maintain and Monitor Plant Fire Extinguisher Inspections and Placement Schedule and Monitor Company Fire Drills Additional Responsibilities / Duties Conduct hazard evaluations of jobs and process and perform routine inspections of facilities and operations for unsafe conditions and work practices and make recommendations to reduce/eliminate incident occurrence. Perform safety compliance audits to identify problem areas and provide recommendations for corrective actions as needed. This includes compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Follow up using good management techniques to ensure problems are resolved. Manage the incident investigation process, monitor, and distribute information as necessary. Coordinate activities of all outside agencies that impact safety. Maintain good working relationships with all agencies and follow up as needed on recommendations and/or citations. Plan, schedule, coordinate and/or conduct EHS training programs for employees and contractors such as HAZCOM, blood borne pathogens, fire protection, DOT requirements, etc. Assist in managing and maintaining day-to-day EHS programs, including new hire orientation, PPE requirements, etc. Perform ergonomic risk assessments of workplace/workstations, recommending corrective action to reduce/eliminate hazards. Participate, manage, and provide support for site safety committees and safety related events. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in business or related field is preferred. 5 to 10 years of safety and quality experience Corrugated manufacturing experience preferred A valid, current drivers license is required. Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with contractors, service techs (onsite/phone support), and fellow employees Ability to work additional hours and weekends as necessary to meet business plan objectives Proficient use of Word, Excel, and Outlook is a plus OSHA 30-hour certification preferred Forklift / High Lift trainer certified preferred UST Class A/B operator training/certificate preferred Continuing education/yearly safety training required (Raffles, OSHA, etc)
