Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Check us out online: DescriptionPurpose of Position:This class of positions encompasses professional and/or supervisory work of varying degrees of difficulty in the field of psychology, providing psychological services to individuals and groups across various settings, including Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics (FPECC), which may include participation in the process of commitment of patients to institutional care. Ensures patient-centered quality care and services in support of better outcomes and improved patient experience, in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and psychology standards of care. Under general supervision, with latitude for independent or unreviewed action or decision-making, performs professional work in the field of psychology. Unlicensed individuals must work under the supervision of a New York State licensed and currently registered Psychologist.Responsibilities:Through clinical interviewing and/or through the selection, administration and interpretation of standard group and individual tests of personality development and intellectual capacity, evaluates individuals' emotional and intellectual functioning.Maintains suitable records and files of test performance and treatment results.Prepares reports of psychological findings which may be included in clinical case histories, files, etc.Consults with psychiatrists, social workers, judges and other relevant parties regarding the diagnoses, prognoses and recommendations for disposition of individual cases.Attends and may participate in psychological and general staff conferences.Participates in individual and group research by evaluating initial summarization and quantitative treatment of data, preparing research reports for be required to provide psychological consultation services on non-clinical issues, and may offer psychological consultation services to other City agencies.May participate in treatment programs administering psychotherapy. Minimum QualificationsAssignment Level I A. 1. Completion of two years of graduate work, consisting of at least sixty graduate semester credits in Psychology, in an accredited graduate program leading to a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology, plus two years of satisfactory, full-time experience, gained after admission to the accredited graduate program, in one of these areas, under the supervision of a qualified Psychologist or Psychiatrist in a hospital, penal institution, social agency, clinic, court, school or other agency or institution; or,2. A Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology; or,3. Completion of respecialization in Clinical Psychology from an accredited program plus one year of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in (1)(a). B. In addition to meeting the requirement under (A):1. Completion of the equivalent of three semester credits from an accredited graduate school in each of the following: (1) personality testing; (2) Individual intelligence testing; (3) Psychopathology or Abnormal Psychology; and (4) Psychological and/or Behavioral Intervention; and,2. Two-hundred-and-forty hours of experience, under the supervision of a qualified Psychologist, in each of the following: (1) Personality testing; (2) Individual intelligence testing; and (3) Psychological and/or behavioral intervention. However, experience in psychological and/or behavioral intervention may have been under the supervision of a qualified Psychiatrist. Completion of an American Psychological Association (APA) approved Doctoral Program in Professional Psychology is evidence of meeting the course requirements listed in (B)(1). Completion of an APA approved internship in Professional Psychology is evidence of meeting all supervised experience requirements, including the one year of full-time experience listed in (A) and (B). C. License Requirement for Assignment Level I For appointment to the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Alcoholism Services and those programs functionally transferred to the Health and Hospitals Corporation from the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Alcoholism Services, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment. Assignment Level II SPECIAL NOTE # = Additional Requirements for Assignment Level II (Effective September 25, 1998) A. A Doctoral Degree in clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology, awarded upon completion of a Doctoral Program in Psychology registered by the New York State Department of Education and designated as licensure qualifying; and B. One additional year of satisfactory full-time experience, either as a Psychologist for the City of New York, or in a supervisory capacity in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology in an approved agency or institution.
