Under the supervision, Anesthesia Technicians assist anesthesiologists and other medical staff working on the anesthesia team to clean, maintain and prepare anesthesiaequipment for use in surgical procedures. Maintains and organizes the anesthesia environment, equipment and supplies to facilitate operation of the department. Inventories and maintains supply stock, collaborates with purchasing and acts as liaison. Performs preventative maintenance for all equipment according to established protocols. Reports equipment malfunctions to management and arranges for loaner equipment when necessary. Aids in capital equipment budget preparation. Coordinates equipment and supplies outside the OR. Assists anesthesia professional staff as requested. Prepares, drapes, places BP cuff, EKG leads and Pulse oximeter for patient; assists in invasive monitoring line insertion, pulmonary artery catheter insertion, central venous access, fiberoptic intubation and/or difficult airway situations; sets up OP for cases including preparation of laryngoscope and intubation equipment, IV solution and administration sets, sets up warming devices; assists anesthesiologist with volume infusions as directed during intra-operative volume resuscitations. Prepares and assembles transducer lines and equipment necessary for arterial, central venous, and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring, as requested. Troubleshoots anesthesia delivery systems, scavenging system gas analyzer, EKG, pulse oximeter, cell saver and rapid infusion devices and maintains all related records. Assembles and assists with operation of specialized equipment such as humidification units, fiberoptic endoscopic equipment and rapid infusion devices. Follows protocol for all safety and infection control practices and monitors the environment and equipment to ensure cleaning standards are maintained. Prepares and sets up sterile arterial line insertion and sterile introducer kits. Participates in education of new staff members as well as ongoing educational programs for department. May, with Clinical Lab Tech Certification and Physician Assistant, maintain and operate ancillary laboratory including, but not limited to "ISTAT". Performs related duties, as required. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required; Minimum of one (1) year experience in anesthesia technology, cardiovascular monitoring cardiac catheterization or related physiological or cardiovascular specialties, preferred; American Society of Anesthesia Technologists & Technicians Certification within two years of employment preferred. This is an 1199 union position. Benefits will come from 1199.
