Overview:Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a 49 year old multi-servicenot-for-profit organization based on the settlement house model and located in theBronx. We provide resources for Bronx residents from cradle to career to advanceeducation and well-being for a vibrant community. KHCC serves over 5,000 familiesannually with an inclusive environment for children with special needs, low-incomefamilies, recent immigrants, survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, and at-risk teens.KHCC helps participants overcome adversity and develop the skills they need to buildbright futures.Our College and Career Counselors (JFK and Walton Educational Campuses)are responsible for working with high school students on developing comprehensivepostsecondary plans. This is accomplished through 1:1 advising, family engagement,workshops, college and career related trips, and career panels. Each counselor will beassigned a caseload of students to work with, however, the College Directions team isresponsible for engaging all high school students, with a specific focus on juniors andseniors.Specific Duties and Responsibilities:â— Support all aspects of college and career programming at KHCC's StudentSuccess Centers (JFK or Walton campus), including outreach and recruitment,intake and registration, administrative tracking, and supervision of daily collegeoffice visitors and activitiesevents.â— Provide individual college and career advising for a large caseload of students(high school students, with a specific focus on Juniors and Seniors) discussingfinancial aid options, college choice, the actual application process, andmatriculation.â— Engage students who are more interested in pursuing work or vocational trainingaround alternative post-secondary pathways and options.â— Plan and implement college and career workshops and events based on gradelevel and the post-secondary planning trajectory, i.e. underclassmen vs. juniorsand seniors, all middlehigh school age youth, etc.â— Maintain effective and collaborative relationships with the schools that theStudent Success Center supports on each campus.â— Build strong partnerships with community agencies, colleges, college counselingnetworks that consistently provide leadership and educational opportunities toKHCC participants.â— Engage, build relationships with, and provide appropriate behavior managementand supervision for youth via daily activitiesâ— Stay informed about changes and developments in the college accesscommunity, including the statewide CUNYSUNY system, financial aid andscholarships, and special programs for low-income students (e.g. EOP, HEOP,SEEK, etc.)â— Provide task supervision to high school and college-aged peer collegecounselors and bridge coaches.â— Support the planning and implementation of college-related trips and events asneeded for both high school and middle school participants depending on theneeds of the campus and partner schools.â— Maintain exceptional data tracking systems for both KHCC and the DOE:Prepare data for foundationother funding reports.Physical Demands:â— While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit;handle, or feel; talk, hear, smell or taste. On rare occasions it may be necessary to move quickly,run, etc. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach withhands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Theemployee must regularly lift andor move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift andor move up to 25pounds and occasionally lift andor move up to 50 pounds.
