DESCRIPTION Michael Baker is actively seeking a Bridge & Tunnel Engineer / nationally certified Team leader to join our Waltham team. This role is a multi-faceted position that includes but is not limited too; leading safety inspections of in-service bridges and tunnels, overseeing documentation and reporting, manual development, load rating, and rehabilitation design of bridges and tunnels throughout Massachusetts and nationwide. This position offers a dynamic schedule with a mix of on-site field work and office/work-from-home with mentorship of junior engineers. The successful candidate will be able to Independently evaluate and apply standard engineering techniques and criteria in broad area of assignments. RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will be nationally certified bridge and tunnel inspection team leader with the ability to clearly communicate with state and local agencies, coordinate with vendors, perform safety inspections of simple and complex in-service structures, and produce inspection reports following Federal Highway Administration National Bridge and Tunnel Inspection Standards. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to producing load ratings, manual development, rehabilitation recommendations and design as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering with a focus on bridges or structures from an ABET-accredited university or college 5 -8+ years of experience, with a primary focus on Inspection Nationally certified bridge and tunnel inspection team leader Schedules staff, subconsultants, equipment, traffic closures and details for inspections as assigned. Ability to lead complex bridge and tunnel inspection at Initial, Routine, Special Member, Damage, Rating, and/or rehabilitation levels. Working knowledge of MassDOT Bridge Inspection Management System (4D) Working knowledge with MassDOT Tunnel Inspection Handbook (2018 Revision) Working knowledge of MassDOT Bridge Inspection Handbook 2015 (2019 revision) Knowledgeable in Non-Destructive testing methods Demonstrates a personal commitment to quality, and accuracy. Writes and/or reviews inspection reports and ensuring on-time submission for FHWA compliance. Assist in scoping new assignments, preparing budgets and schedules, performing quality control, and preparing submission documents to the client. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and other contract documents. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Valid driver's license and be able to obtain a DOT Medical Certificate. Ability to operate various types of inspection equipment Commitment to personal safety and the safety of their fellow team members. Use of hand tools, ladders, and other equipment necessary. Ability to effectively document and communicate observed conditions using sound engineering judgement. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (excel, word, ect.), AutoCAD and BlueBeam. Ability to work independently upon receiving assignments and technical guidance. Enthusiastic towards helping address some of our nation's most critical infrastructure challenges while building the future of our organization! PREFERRED Massachusetts Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within 6 months Experience with the inspection, load rating or design of bridges and or/tunnels. Experience with AASHTOware BrR, StAAD Pro, MDX, CSI Bridge, MathCAD, and other structural analysis software. Ability to manage bridge/structural tasks as part of project development, including plan and report production Develop or assist in developing structural details and construction plans using a variety of industry-standard software packages Assist and check design calculations performed by others Prepare geometric/bridge layouts, construction specifications, and material quantity calculations COMPENSATION The approximate compensation range for this position is $117,000-$175,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
