Job Responsibilities The role is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of SPA productions are completed within scope and budget according to the designers' and directors' wishes, and in time for the first public performance. They will oversee the cost effectiveness and planning of the entire production process for multiple, simultaneous productions throughout the academic year. The position is responsible for analyzing and determining technical labor and supply budgets for SPA productions, campus events, theater rentals, and community events that make use of SPA facilities. The role has autonomous decision making responsibility including that connected with purchasing and procurement, hiring and terminating, and otherwise connected to the need for successful productions with the opening of the MPT. The Production and Programming Manager will analyze and determine technical labor and production budgets for SPA productions, administer the show budget, approve/deny expenditures, issue purchase order requisitions and Independent Contractor Contracts and initiate budget transfers in coordination with the Director of Operations and Administration for SPA. The role will oversee budget creation and projections in collaboration with faculty, staff and administrators. In conjunction with SPA faculty and staff, the position will oversee the scheduling of SPA events for the Sklarsky Glass Box Theater, Music Performance Theater, and other venues on campus managed by SPA. The position works closely with SPA and NTID faculty and staff on joint productions and performances including coordination of staffing and logistics for events and rehearsals. This includes serving on the joint season scheduling committee established between SPA and NTID. The position will meet with prospective RIT and community organizations including renters, as well as touring groups to determine feasibility of accepting, scheduling, and crewing their production or event. The role creates any necessary estimates and proposals including technical labor needs, front-of-house needs, and conducts meetings with production teams. The position must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a willingness to collaborate and work closely with a team. They will communicate with faculty, personnel, contractors, and other administrators to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information; communicate with and advise touring artists, technical directors or company managers to assure the smooth running of performances, lectures and other events. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge and experience in performing arts center management and have experience in higher education. The individual in this role has broad latitude to make independent decisions surrounding program expenditures. Entering its third year of existence, SPA is responsible for programming the performing arts facilities within the Student Hall for Exploration and Development, including the Sklarsky Glass Box Theater. In addition, RIT will soon open the Music Performance Theater (MPT) which features a 750-performance hall. As such, SPA is seeking qualified and capable experts to support and manage productions and performances presented in these new state-of-the-art venues. The position will manage and facilitate a large-scale, multi-stage popular music rock festival titled "Unlabeled Festival", which takes place in the SHED every spring. School of Performing Arts large numbers of students and faculty also perform in RIT's multi-day homecoming celebration; Brick City Weekend as well as Imagine RIT, our large interdisciplinary Creativity and Innovation Festival. This role will be responsible for planning and coordinating student and faculty-led performances throughout these events. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in performing arts or a related field OR Equivalent experience. Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience. Broad range of theatrical knowledge to draw on, understanding the craft of set, costume, lighting, and sound designers as well as the work of technical crews and engineers. Prior experience as a stage manager or assistant production manager. Technical theatre production and knowledge of various aspects of producing an event or production in both the educational and professional arenas. Royalty regulations for play productions and budget preparation and oversight Operation of a computer and assigned software. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and on-line meeting platforms such as Zoom is essential. Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face. Excellent verbal and written communication skills that will include public speaking and presentations. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to build strong, collaborative, and long-lasting relationships for the betterment of the organization. Training and experience serving in a management role in a production department at a theater, live event venue, or a related field. Enjoy creating and implementing new processes and working across departments. Proven experience in handling production and design processes on large scale productions. Demonstrated creative judgment, excellent problem-solving skills and detail-oriented. Strong ability to lead a team, delegate and communicate effectively across multiple departments and with dynamic people. Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities as well as attend to numerous projects concurrently. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in an arts administration-related field. Job Summary The School of Performing Arts (SPA) Production and Programming Manager plans, oversees, and produces all music, theatrical and dance productions produced by SPA. This is a newly formed role meant to expand the School's ability to successfully deliver large-scale theatrical productions including multidisciplinary musical theatre performances in the forthcoming 750-seat Music Performance Theater.
